Trans Canada Highway Express
Trans Canada Highway Express eastbound out of Brooks, Alta. with a load of hides for Toronto. A couple of Trans-Canada rigs having coffee at Ignace, ON.
This is a brand new COE Freightliner, #63 at TCHE with a brand new "American" 38 ft. reefer at freightways yard in Calgary owned by Ross Stinson (in the pic). John Ellis ran double with him for a while and then Ross turned John loose on his own to run single to To and Mtl. It had a 10 speed RoadRanger behind a Cummins NH 250 on 22 inch rubber, 58 mph at 2200 rpm.

On a normal trip, average speed was between 32-34 mph and took roughly 50 hours Calgary to To, which is right on the money, because we ran Winnipeg - TO in 36, with similar specs. Photo courtesy of John Ellis

This in the late 60s out of Austin, Man. Looks like the fog fooled him for a second.
