| The Silver Skagit Logging Company and Decco-Walton Logging Company were contracted to clear the forest for the construction of the Diablo Dam in northern Washington State. Now Ross Lake is where this forest once was. Here are pictures that I recently allowed to put on the web site. The person who owns this collection wishes to remain anonymous.
Further down this page are some pictures that my Father, Henry R. Suderman, took while he worked from Decco-Walton Logging Company.

Silver Skagit Logging was based in Vancouver. They had an office on Hastings Street. The company was jointly owned by Morrison-Knudsen Ltd and Delong Engineering, and run by Colonel Leon B. DeLong, the inventor of the DeLong Floating Pier. Silver Skagit's fleet of tugboats for towing the logs from Hope down the Fraser River was bought from Cecil Cosulich's River Towing Company; Cosulich then bought them back after Silver Skagit was finished with logging the right of way for the road from Hope to the Ross Reservoir area. Silver Skagit is also the company where Lucille Johnstone, the financial genius behind Rivtow got her start as a receptionist.

I know that Decco-Walton was an Everett, Washington based company, but know very little about what happened to Decco-Walton after the Ross Lake project was completed. And I would also like to know how Alaska Freight Lines came into this picture.
If there is anyone out there with more pictures from this project, I would love to add them to this web page.

| This company had the contract to clear the trees in the area of Ross Lake. The trees were cleared so that the dam could be built at the south end of Ross Lake for Seattle City Light. |
