| During the summer of 2009 Hank Suderman, from Hank's Truck Pictures, invited me attend a truck show up in Canada on Vancouver Island. He also sent me a DVD from the last year's show. Well it didn't take much convincing to make the 7 hour drive up to Canada. I spent Thursday night at Hank's place and then the next morning we took the BC Ferry over to Vancouver Island and then the one hour plus drive to Port Alberni.
We were met at Port Alberni by Steve and Vicki Drybrough, who immediately took us to a few spots that had been previously arranged with Hank. These locations included two yards with 1950's vintage Western Flyer highway coaches, seeing a Canadian-Built Grizzly pickup, and the Cameron Division yard where Steve works out of. The next two days we spend the entire day at the McLean Steam Mill at Port Alberni. This is the third year that the Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society and the Alberni Valley Museum have had a vintage truck show at the McLean Mill. It was the first time that Hank Suderman attended the show, so it would be a first time experience for us both. I enjoyed myself so much with the people at the show, so I decided to drive back to Vancouver Island for a day riding with Steve Drybrough on the Hayes HDX that he has driven since brand new. The day was unforgetable. I even got brave during the drive back to Hank's place and made some side trips to some tourist attraction on Vancouver Island and on the Mainland near Vancouver. This is a photo journal of my trip to Canada. I hope you enjoy the pictures. |
