| This is a 2-8-8-4 "Yellowstone", one of the biggest steam locomotives ever built. It Hauled iron ore into the port at Duluth,Mn. until it was finally retired in 1959. It's on permanent display in Proctor, MN. Tony Gussie Collection. |
This is called a "centipede" tender because of the several axles spaced so closely together. This was the only type tender that could carry enough water and coal for a locomotive of this size. That's my son Mitch on the running board. Tony Gussie Collection. |
