This photo was taken in the mid 1970's when the truck was based in Wollongong carting BP fuel from the Port Kemblas Depot. Here it is seen unloading fuel at the Nowra depot. One of 2 new Freightliners that will be hauling logs in the region. This one was about to be registed for the road when the photo was taken. Here is a very well restored 1971 DCF 402 International on display - as good as the day it came out of the showroom.
Here is a photo of a Neil Mansell Transport Mack Titan from Toowoomba. Here is the same Mack Titan with two restored B-Models on the trailer - the old and the new. All the B-models on display were immaculate - all in showroom condition. Here is a Kenworth K-100 B-Double at the BP Marulan Roadhouse belonging to Wettenhalls of Melbourne.
Here is a photo of Waltzing Matilda - a jet powered Ford Louisville. The truck had a 3208 CAT motor and the motyor on the back was from a Canberra Jet Bomber. It was travelling about Australia with one of our Country Music Stars - Ray Kernaghan- when this was taken back in the 1970's in Kempsey on a visit. Previously it had been raced at various locations around Australia when Tyrone Malone had the Detroit powered "Super Boss" out here on tour. They raced each other a number of times but I never got to see them race. I saw both trucks in Wollongong on display but that was all. They attracted a lot of attention as they travelled around the country.
Brand new DENNIS which I didn't think was still in production. It is on a lowloader and apparently has been travelling about on show. This one is in crew cab configuration. Freightliner Argosy that called in through the week for a small repair. It is in B-Double configuration. Mack Magnum owned by Scotts Transport of Mt Gambier in South Australia. Also called in to work for a small running repair on his way through to Brisbane.
Freightliner Argosy belonging to Fruithall of Caboolture in Queensland. This vehicle travels the east coast between Brisbane and Melbourne carting fruit. Note the mural on the side of the trailer advertising Queensland strawberries - a very striking unit when seen on the highway. We had a visit from from a 1984 Silver Eagle coach at work during the week so I have taken the liberty of sending you a photo of it. It is owned by King Bros buses and has been refurbished. It is fitted with a 6V92 Detroit Diesel and a 4-speed Automatic gearbox. .It has bee re-upholstered inside and looks very smart indeed. I love the Eagles head blernding in with the King Bros stripes down the side of the coach - looks great. I don't know the year model of this truck but this one was repowered with a Cummins 903 motor and RoadRanger gearbox and was used on general freight haulage back in the 1970's.
This rig was pulled up early one Sunday morning and was one of three carrying earthmoving machinery. It is owned by Turners of Orange and is carrying a Caterpillar D11N dozer on it's trailer. This was taken back in the late 1960's in Kempsey. It was a Mack Thermodyne R600 Flintstone as they were known in Australia. This one was configured as a tipper but later in life it had a dog trailer (also a tipper) attached to it. The driver at the time Sid Sutherland is standing beside the vehicle.
TJ3 Bedford: I drove this vehicle for approximately 12 months back in 1969-1970 distributing Red Tulip Chocolate and confectionery to various retail outlets between Forster and Nambucca Heads. This photo was taken during a lunch break at the beach at North Haven near Port Macquarie. Dodds Tanker. A Bedford prime mover towing a Caltex fuel tank. Once again this was taken many years ago and details have escaped my memory about this vehicle. Maxwells OSHKOSH Tow Truck: This was taken many years ago at one of the Truck Parades we had. It was an Oshkosh heavy vehicle recovery truck and was used around this part of the state for many years.
Murphy Actros: A very new Mercedes Benz Actros towing a trailer for the distribution of grocery lines for Action Supermarkets down as far as Port Macquarie. Browns Sterling: A late model Sterling that dropped into work. This one comes from the Melbourne area of Victoria. Kyles 1418 Benz: This photo was taken about 1968 and is of a Mercedes Benz 1418 towing a 36 foot spread bogey trailer. In it's day it used to run interstate carrying general freight.
A Freightliner Century Class B-Double of Dohertys Transport from Wollongong. Runs to variousdestinations throughout Australia. Brad Keast Freightliner: This truck is pictured in these pages but in a diferent colour scheme. It is now used for carting bricks from Kempsey to destinations in Sydney & Brisbane. A twin steer Kenworth belonging to BP Australia and was based at Port Kembla delivering fuel to service stations in the Wollongong area. This photo was taken during the 1970's while loading fuel at Port Kembla.
A Ford Louisville towing an Esso fuel tank. This was a photo also taken during the early 1970's. This photo was taken in the main street in Katherine in the Northern Territory.back in 1972. Both trucks are "piggybacking" the 2nd trailer while travelling to their destination.
This particular truck belonged to Creswell Downs Station in the Northern Territory and was stopped at a little roadhouse at a place called Barry Caves just over the border in the Northern Territory.
This 75 model White Road Commander has been converted from a prime mover to a water cart that will be used on road building and construction sites. A smart looking rig in black and orange colours originates from the steel city of Wollongong and is a T600 Kenworth powered with a CAT C12 motor. I shot this photo whilst in was in Des Moines in Iowa back in 1996. It was taken at the depot of TMC Transport in Des Moines.
This is a photo of a Kenworth owned by TMC Transport of Des Moines in Iowa. Also taken while I was in Iowa in 1996. A Century Class ready for delivery. It is fitted with a CAT C12 motor and will be used hauling refrigerated freight between Sydney & Brisbane. Another Argosy on day of delivery 7 March 2003 hooking up to his trailer ready to load a wide load to transport to Sydney. This vehicle will travel all over Australia carrying over dimensional loads and specialised freight.
An Argosy fitted with a Detroit S60 motor. Will be used for B-double work from Sydney to the mid north Coast. Photos show the vehicle as it came out from pre-delivery and then hooked up to 2 trailers ready to go to work. Another Argosy fitted with a Series 60 Detroit. Used for hauling refrigerated freight as the signs on the trailer say for Frigmobile and VIP Pet Foods.
I took a picture of this Volvo yesterday (February 6, 2003) at work. It comes from Brisbane but carts groceries down here to a supermarket chain. Unforunately it has mechanical problems so it stayed overnight at our yard for a rest before returning to Brisbane. It is a 1999 model Volvo F12 with a 380HP motor in it. I have attached a picture of the vehicle after it was parked at our yard.
