My version of Lunch Time at the Overpass - Eastern US - these photos are all on I-66 in Fairfax County, VA
Bernhardt Industries, Inc. furniture manufacturer based in Lenoir, NC - September 2007 Second profile view of Bernhardt - nice stark black & white Dandi Provisions, Inc - local Boar's Head Meats distributors - all their trucks have this basic design with customized lettering for each distributor on the cab door - the Boar's Head website says they use gold leaf on every truck - September 2007
Burns Motor Freight, Inc of Marlinton,WV; a regional flatbed carrier - nice details on their fleet - I like the corporate ID board on the green trailer bulkhead which is standard through their fleet - this company was profiled in the American Truck Historical Society magazine in 2005 or 06 - picture September 2007 Eastern Petroleum Corp. Annapolis, MD - September 2007
G & K Services; a uniform service company with locations all over US - this one may be from their Laurel, MD, location - September 2007 Premium Distributors of Virginia, Chantilly, VA - nice Sam Adams Beer trailer used in local beverage distribution - September 2007 Grayson Mitchell, Inc., for hire carrier based in Emporia, VA. Not too many Freightliner Colombias in this fleet. Mostly run Paccar trucks. Taken October 2007.
Advance Auto Parts, Roanoke, VA. Volvo VN cab white version, there are still a few black cabs from this company around. Taken September 2007. Atco Rubber Products. This is probably out of their Baltimore plant. Freightliner FLD cab. The FLD is one of my all time favorite models. Taken October 2007.
Bradco-Wickes, Frederick, MD. This is a merger of Bradco Supply Co. and Wickes Lumber. The Mack CH cab is the infrequently seen forward axle model. Taken October 2007. Cassens Auto Transport, Edwardsville, IL. When I first saw this company's trucks on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in 1983 they were still running early 70s Dodge conventional cabs, red with yellow & black script lettering. Taken October 2007.
Cracker Barrel Restaurants. Probably based out of their Tennessee distribution center. This extensively graphic'd trailer is being pulled by a Volvo VN owned by Averitt Express, their current logistics provider. 10 years ago Cracker Barrel had a private fleet of trucks and trailers. Taken November 2007. Distribution Plus, Inc., a food products distributor out of Upper Marlboro, MD. Freightliner cab. This company also used to have a fleet of semi-trailer trucks with these same body graphics. They still run black semis now with minimal graphics. Taken November 2007. Giant Foods, Landover, MD. Local supermarket chain. International 9000 series cab with 80's/90's era trailer graphics. When locally owned, this company ran a fleet of Ford Louisvilles painted in shades of blue. At least their new trailer graphics are more lively. On the rear door of their old trailers they used to have a slogan over red & white safety hatching that read 'Careful Driving is a Civic Duty'. Taken September 2007.
Harrisburg Dairies, Harrisburg, PA. Mack CH daycab. First saw this in Harrisburg at their dairy in the late 90s. Never thought I'd see it regularly in the Northern Virginia area. Taken October 2007. Woods Equipment Co, Oregon, IL. Freightliner Columbia cab. This is a recent upgrade of their fleet graphics. Well-executed. Taken September 2007.
ABC Supply Co., Inc. from regional distribution center. International 8600 cab. Taken April 2008. Auto Zone. Typically the DC area is served from the Zanesville, Ohio, distribution center. This one has no distribution center location noted. Freightliner Columbia cab. Taken November 2007. Charles W. Karper, Inc., Chambersburg, PA & Winchester, VA. 'General Hauling' Despite the late model Mack Vision the door graphics are simple retro lettering little changed over 30 years. This company is a regional carrier specializing in precast concrete form hauls. Taken October 2007.
E.E. Lyons, Inc., Vienna, VA. A general contractor. I like the bold yellow and black graphics on this Kenworth T300 with short utility/lube body. Taken November 2007. Fannon Petroleum Services, Inc., Gainesville, VA. Volvo cab. Taken March 2008. Ferraro Foods, Piscataway, NJ. Italian food products distributor. Peterbilt 357 cab with unusually spacious sleeper for private carriage operator. Taken April 2008.
Hardwood Interiors, Inc., Oakland, MD. Kenworth T300. Nice detailed product information and photo graphics on soft sided body. Taken April 2008. Impact Office Products, Beltsville, MD. Isuzu cab. Taken March 2008. Southern Champion Tray, LP, Chattanooga, TN. One of my all time favorite trucks for a number of reasons. The corporate moniker possesses great character, creatively trumpeting the quality of the product and still describing the product the company manufactures. Their equipment also includes a number of interesting details such as the 'S' in the logo forming a paper roller, the integration of 'SCT' into the cab graphics, and the depiction of the small paper box on the trailer. International 9000 series cab. Taken October 2007.
StairWorld, Inc., Ottawa, Ontario. This was the first time I'd seen a truck from this company, a manufacturer of staircases. Nice detailed trailer graphics. Freightliner FLD cab. Taken October 2007. Sunbelt Rentals, Laurel, MD. Uncharacteristically, this vehicle is transportating a JLB manlift that is not in Sunbelt's corporate green. Typically, all their equipment is shaded in their iconic green. Mack Vision daycab. Taken April 2008. SuperValu Transportation, Inc. The Mack CH daycab has a Quincy, FL, address although it is apparent that it is based at the Mechanicsville, VA, distribution center. The rarity here is that it is pulling an old Richfood trailer which was a regional wholesale grocer based in Richmond, VA, that was acquired by SuperValu some 10-15 years ago. Richfood used to run red and white long-nose Mack R cabs up and down I-95.
Tuf-Flex Glass, Inc., Atlanta, GA. I like the long glass rack trailer. Freightliner Columbia cab leased from Ryder. Taken October 2007. Tyson Foods headquartered in Springdale, AR. This may be among the last of their iconic brown cabs to be seen on the road. Most of their tractor fleet is now in base white. Volvo VN. Taken October 2007. US Foodservice, Severn, MD. A rare opportunity to get a shot of a vintage Sexton & Co. foodservice trailer apparently pulled out of mothballs for local deliveries. International 8500 cab. Taken April 2008.
Utz Foods/Utztran, LLC, Hanover, PA. A snack food manufacturer. KW T600 daycab. Taken April 2008. Venezia Bulk Transport, Inc., Limerick, PA. A regional carrier of bulk commodities. Their slogan on the cab is 'Delivering on Our Promises'. Volvo VN cab. Taken October 2007. Walong, Jersey City, NJ. Distributing Kamfen noodle products. I like the photo of Hong Kong in the background. Hino SG cab. Taken March 2008.
Yellow Freight System, Inc. for local pickup & delivery. I like the full orange truck and trailer for local service. Volvo daycab. Taken January 2008. Baker, Knapp & Tubbs a furniture manufacturer. This Volvo VN is based at one of their North Carolina manufacturing plants. Taken March 2008. Kingsdown Mattresses from their Winchester, VA, plant. Freightliner Columbia cab. Taken March 2008.
Broyhill Furniture of Lenoir, NC. Sleek leased Peterbilt 387 cab. Taken March 2008. La-Z-Boy of New Tazewell, Tennessee. "You're the kid, we're the candy store." is the slogan on the side of the trailer. Freightliner Columbia cab. Taken October 2007. Vineyard Furniture International of Winnsboro, LA. An all-purple combination, a rare sight especially with a long nose Freightliner Classic conventional cab. Taken October 2007.
Bertch Cabinet Mfg. of Waterloo, Iowa. Freightliner Century cab from contract hauler. Taken April 2008. C & C Meat Sales, Inc., of Upper Marlboro, MD. Freightliner Columbia cab. Taken November 2008. DMT Trucking, Inc., of Baltimore, MD. DMT has traditionally been an exclusive hauler for Toyota. Its primary haul has been between their plant in Kentucky to Baltimore via I-68. This one is apparently making local dealer deliveries. This Sterling car hauler model was photgraphed in November 2008.
