Mack R tanker belonged to Fort Edward Express from Fort Edward, NY and was offloading diesel at a hardware distribution center in Westfield, MA in early 1975 for that private fleets tractors. Futuristic Furniture from either NC or VA at another motel along U.S. 5 in West Springfield, MA also in 1974. Midwest Emery Freight System from Chicago, IL GMC Astro at the Westfield, MA Howard Johnson's parking lot in 1974. They, along with Midwestern Distribution from Ft Scott, KS were the two big truckload fleets that were common sights in the early to mid 70's in my hometown.
Unidentified White Freightliner COE pulling an interestingly loaded drop deck taken at a motel along U.S. 5 in Westfield, MA in 1974. The Bekins was taken about sundown somewhere near Springfield, MA in in 1974. I don't recognize the background so I'm at a loss for exact location. Brockway COE was taken across from the Country Court motel on U.S. 202 N. of Westfield, MA during the summer of 1974. I think it reads Condor Corp. from somewhere in Maine on the door.
Every once in a great while I still see one of these old girls running. I shot this at he former Days Inn on U.S. 192 by I-95 in the early 90's. Johnson Motor Lines #2722 taken just before sunset stopped at a coffee shop along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield, MA in 1974. This was a beautiful Pete 359 leased on with Safeway Truck Lines out of LaPaz, IN. Notice the matching gold stripe on the 45 foot box. Shot it @ the Country Court Motel on U.S. 202 N. of Westfield, MA early one summer morning in 1974.
GMC Astro belonged or was leased to meat packer Gangloff & Downham from Logansport, IN that I found across the street from the Mass Turnpike Exit 3 ramp in 1973. KW Conv. for Midwest Emery Freight System out of Chicago, IL taken at a motel along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield, MA in 1974. Specialized hauler Superior Trucking from Atlanta, GA ran this Ford W-1000 COE that I came across while on my bicycle during the summer of 1972 at the Westfield, Mass. A & W Root Beer restaurant on U.S. 202.
Unidentified White F/L COE at the W. Springfield, MA Howard Johnson's on U.S. 5 in 1974. Amoco Chemicals Corp. not sure where he was from at the Valley View Diner where U.S. 5 & I-91 met in W.Springfield, MA during the summer of 1974. Nice old Diamond Reo owned by Carter Bros. Potatoes from Monticello, Maine and leased to or from L.E. MacNair Co. from Houlton, Maine. Shot in late 1973 at the Springfield, MA farmers market complex..
Pete COE: Owned by Chester Starling from Ft Pierce, FL I believe this was the same person who operated Starling Transport Lines from Ft Pierce for several years in the 70's. Shot him early a.m. stopped along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield, MA in 1974. Here's one for my Canadian friends: A Sunbury Transport Ltd. from Woodstock, New Brunswick paused as he pulled into O'Connor Lumber along U.S. 202 N. of Westfield, MA in 1973 Can't quite make out the lettering on the cab of this KW COE except the letters YB and it appears he's from Dade City, FL. This was taken in early 1975 by the Springfield, MA farmer's market complex.
hot this unidentified F model Mack coming off the Exit 3 ramp of the Mass. Pike and turning N. onto U.S. 202 (Southampton Road)from my strategically located "bicycle hangout corner" during the fall of 1972. Ernie's was a towing and recovery outfit located on Union St. in W. Springfield, MA. This was taken in 1974 near their yard. This is the other Subler from Versailles, OH. Subler Transfer. Found this one while home on leave from the Air Force in 1976 at Lewis Beef Co. in downtown Springfield, MA.

Kenworth K100 World Wide moving van and Allied Van Line Freightliner taken at West Sacramento, CA at the ARCO Truckadero stop CA 99 & Mack Rd. S. side of Sacramento in April 1976 O/O leased Freightliner on with International Transport out of Rochester, MN with a load of jet engines all tarped during the winter of 1973-74 across the street from the entrance of the Mass.Pike in Westfield, MA. Gasland White 4000 from Springfield, MA. They were a local discount gas station chain back in the early-mid 70's. This White 4000 was taken in downtown Westfield, MA in early 1973
Yellow Freight System Freightliner from (at that time) Indianapolis, IN hooked to an Adley Express, New Haven, CT freight box taken in Dec. 1973 at a motel along U.S. 202 N. of Westfield, MA near Yellow's terminal. I believe they had just purchased Adley when I came across this opportunity. O/O Pete COE leased to Chemical Leaman Tank Lines on a dark and dismal summer day in 1973 on Route 147 (Memorial Drive) in W. Diamond Reo COE leased to Krajack Tank Lines from Roselle Park, NJ during the winter of 1973/74 at the Westfield, MA Howard Johnson's. Mercury Motor Express from Tampa, FL. In their heydays of the 60's & 70's they were a very common sight up and down the East Coast of the U.S. plus had a big terminal & yard along I-95 near Florence, SC. Shot his GMC Astro stopped alongside U.S. 20 in Springfield, MA just East of the North End Bridge over the Connecticut River.

The O/O of this Pete COE was leased to Central & Southern a long time reefer fleet that was based out of Illinois or Oklahoma. Perhaps someone knows something about them that they could share with everyone shot in April 1974 at the former Courtesy House 76 Auto Truckstop on FL route 60 W. of Vero Beach, FL White 7400: Raeford Trucking Company from Sanford, NC taken on U.S. 202 N. of Westfield, MA in 1972. Goya Foods from Tenafly, NJ. They operated and immaculate KW COE fleet in the 70's. I found this one delivering to an Hispanic grocery store in Springfield, MA in 1973.
W model Ford for United Van Lines circa 1972 at Westfield, MA Howard Johnson's parking lot. White Freightliner owned by Core Ltd Tractor Trailer Leasing. Those are Flexi-Van Leasing from New Haven, CT colors so I'm assuming there was some association between the two leasing company's. Shot in 1972 at Old Colony Envelope Co. on N. Main St. in downtown Westfield, MA Anchor Motor Freight Chevrolet with a load of brand new 1973 Chevy Impala's being off loaded at a dealership on Union St. in Westfield, MA in spring 1973.
