Brockway for Alex C. Smith a building materials hauler from Akron, NY he was laying over in a motel along U.S. 202 N. of Westfield, MA across from the O'Connor Lumber Co. yard that my Dad worked for after delivering there in mid 1971. Gypsum Haulage, Inc. from Baltimore, MD & Burlington, NJ was a long time contract hauler for Gold Bond Building Products. They were either acquired by or perhaps owned all along by the former Leaseway Transportation conglomeration of fleets in the late 60's until they were sold off or discontinued operating in the early 90's. These were the same kind of White 9000's that another bulk hauler Mitchell Transport out of Cleveland, OH operated only these were painted orange. This too was taken during mid 1971. P.B. Mutrie Transportation out of Waltham, MA mid 1971 at an empty lot they would park at along MA route 147 in W. Springfield, MA. Colors on the White 4000 was Dark green with a white cap. The B Mack next to it was a shade of gray I believe.
IH Transtar for Messner Truck Rental Ltd. from Marieville, Quebec (I think it's Marieville, looks like it anyways) shot in mid 1971 while off-loading at O'Connor Lumber in Westfield, MA An O/O leased to International Transport in the Pete Coe and agent for Atlas taken in 1975 at the Marquis Texaco fuel stop on U.S. 5 in W. Springfield, MA An old unidentified "Cornbinder" I found at the Valley View Diner where U.S. 5 & I-91 intersect in W. Springfield in 1974
NAVL IH Transtar, 1974 at Mass Pike Exit 6 I-291 Chicopee Falls, MA. If you looked the way the truck is facing you could see Spector's old terminal facility across the road. Yellow Pete leased to Youngstown Cartage Co. shot at the O/O's garage alongside the Penn Central RR tracks in W. Springfield, MA in 1974. He also owned an awesome bullnose KW COE painted the same bright yellow and also leased on with steel hauler Youngstown Cartage. Gray & black KW COE for J.J. Brady & Sons, Inc. from Beverely Farms, MA taken in 1974 at the HoJo's Exit 3 of the Mass Pike in Westfield.
I'm not sure if this was a Co. truck or O/O leased on with Matlack out of Landsdale, PA. I took it while on my bike looking for trucks during the summer of 1972 in downtown Westfield, MA on U.S. 202 Shot this KW COE for Bigge Drayage, a well known H & S hauler out of San Leandro, CA, on E. Bound I-80 from the Muffin Treat Restaurant parking lot near Fairfield, CA in 1976. Hinote Trucking Co., Inc. from Loxley,AL taken in Feb. 1974 at Indian River Truck Brokerage west of Vero Beach on FL Route 60
Ford COE all I know about it is R.T. Inc. is painted next to the reefer unit and I found it at the Pioneer Valley Ref. Warehouse in the N. end section of Springfield, MA in 1974 Private fleet by the name of Rexham from Edinburg, IN was taken in 1973 at a motel along U.S. 202 near Westfield, MA. That was an almost brand new White Road Commander I model back then. Spector Freight System Road Boss II. Taken in 1978 or 1979 at their former Chicopee, MA terminal at Exit 6 of the Mass Pike. They would pull the turnpike doubles the 1/2 mile or so from the toll plaza over to their terminal. From the Chicopee terminal they would haul the "Pikers" West to Ripley, NY which is right on the NY/PA line on I-90. There they would "go to bed" and come back the next shift to Chicopee. Before the Berkshire Section of the Mass Pike opened in 1964?, most truck traffic used U.S. 20 to get over the Berkshire Mountains and into the Albany, NY area, but of course pulling single trailers.
Lester Moznik out of Surrey, BC. Found him in 1977 on a residential street in West Sacramento, CA. IH Transtar for Francis & Walters Trucking based somewhere in CA's Great Central Valley. Notice the nickname on the front license plate. "Great Pumpkin" I guess for the paint scheme. I took it during 1978 at the Muffin Treat Restaurant along I-80 near Fairfield, CA. Aero Trucking was a flatbed and "covered wagon" metal products hauler out of N.Y. state. This is one of my earliest pictures from 1971 or 72 taken at the Westfield, MA HoJo's by Exit 3 of the Mass Pike.
Allied Van Lines Special Products Division Pete COE This lumber hauling Mack belonged to A.L. Root from Brattleboro, VT. They were a small general purpose hauler from the S.E. corner of VT. Shot it in 1974 rolling through an intersection on U.S. 20 in downtown W. Springfield, MA GMC Astro & Pete 352 COE leased to Miller Transfer & Rigging out of Delaware and taken during the summer of 1974 at a truck stop right on the MA/NY border along I-90 (MA Pike & NY Thruway New England extension).
During the summer of 1979 I worked for Burek Oil & Gas in Westfield, MA for about a month before moving back to CA for awhile. This F/L was the brand new replacement for the Brockway. I rode with Ralph to where they loaded on the N. Shore of Boston in Chelsea, MA several times to bring fuel back the 100 or so miles to Westfield. In fact, I think I rode with Ralph on the F/L's very first trip. I gave up my Friday nite just to ride in the brand new tractor! Clearfield Cheese from WI. 1974 at the Springfield,MA farmers market.
This Diamond Reo was leased to building products hauler Lopez Trucking based in Waltham, MA. I found him stopped on U.S. 202 in Westfield, MA in 1973. This IH Transtar is unidentified, but was taken near the Mass Pike exit 3 area of Westfield, MA in 1973. Another view of that snazzy White 9000 leased to Food Haulers taken at the Westover AFB area Shop Rite in Chicopee Falls, MA in 1974.
Pete COE with an old Dodge aircraft refueler was taken at Barnes Municipal Airport near Westfield, MA in 1974. Then new GMC Astro Hertz rental tractor turning North onto U.S. 202 from Exit 3 of the Mass Pike in Westfield, MA back in 1972. Ruth Bros. Smelting Corp. White 7400 from NY State somewhere I believe at the Valley View Diner where U.S. 5 & I-91 meet in W. Springfield, MA in 1974.
O/O leased to Milton Transportation, Inc. Milton, PA shot in 1972 at W. bound I-90 (Mass Pike) service plaza near Auburn, MA. when we were coming home from a summer vacation in Maine. Howard Johnson's IH Transtar II Taken in 1976 at the W. Springfield, MA Ground Round Restaurant where U.S. 20 & U.S. 5 intersect. C.A. Perry & Son, Inc. Fertilizer & Produce looks like Hobbsville, NC shot in 1973 at the Springfield, MA farmers market complex
George A. Gray GMC Crackerbox COE was taken in early 1981 while parked at the State Farmers Market along U.S. 1 just South of Ft Pierce in White City, FL White Freightliner #127 was owned by Hockaday a Ft Pierce, FL based tomato hauler that parked at the old Market 76 Truck Stop across the street from the State Farmers Market along U.S. 1. Vintage is early 1998.
This Oshkosh belonged to Rinker Materials from West Palm Beach, FL. He was delivering to a new building on the campus of Indian River Comm. College in Ft Pierce back in 1982. That's a tough looking truck for sure! White 7400 was an O/O from Maryland I shot in 1981 at the state farmers market in White City, FL. He went crazy when I took pictures of it without asking him, but turned out to be a nice guy after I got him calmed down. This is the companion to the head on shot I took of this sharp White 7400 from Maryland taken also in 1981 at the State Farmers Market along U.S. 1 just S. of Ft Pierce.
This classy old Mack belonged to a small fleet operator L.E. Southerland from Vero Beach, FL He was a common sight up and down the East coast along I-95 as late as the mid 80's with this fine old Mack. I also shot him back in Feb. 1975 at a service plaza North of Baltimore, MD. H.L. Blandenboro Cotton Mills from Blandenboro, NC plus a Brown Transport KW COE out of Waynesboro, GA that I took at an ARCO fuel stop along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield, MA (across the street from the Marquis Texaco. Unidentified Freightliner taken in Springfield, MA SANDRI was a Sunoco fuel products distributor from Greenfield, MA. I caught this then almost brand new "ride" at the Springfield, MA Diamond Reo/Brockway truck dealership in 1974.

Caught this Autocar for Schwerman Trucking out of Milwaukee, WI in their former Florida Division waiting his turn to enter the Florida Turnpike at the Ft Pierce interchange in 1981 on FL Route 70.
