Scammell Crusader. This tractor is rated at 80 ton GVW and is an ex army vehicle probably used for transporting tanks. Scammell were bought out by DAF in 1987 and Scammell production ceased in 1988. The truck has a 1975 number plate and was seen at a Scammell rally in Kent in 1997. Mayer Parry. Mercedes 2534. This is a Kent company which deals in scrap metal. Their fleet is split between Mercedes and DAF. This truck was seen at their depot in 1999. Unitruc. DAF 95XF430 Space Cab. This is a warehouse and distribution company with a daily service to the continent. The truck was seen on the London orbital motorway in 2000.
CSAD. Skoda. This was a state owned vehicle seen in the east end of London waiting to be unloaded in one of the many warehouses situated in the area at the time. 1975. The area has since been redeveloped and the warehouses have long ceased trading. Whitbread. Bedford TK. Whitbread was a large national brewing company that made and distributed its beer to its public houses. Although an unusual axle configuration it was quite common with brewers drays. The truck was seen at the Whitbread Hop Farm in 1999. Dennis PAX 11. Dennis is a British company that specialises in fire appliances and municipal vehicles. This truck is circa 1960 and is owned by the Royal Navy. The truck was seen at an army vehicle rally in 1998.
Concrete Products. Seddon Atkinson Statos 325. The truck comes from Cornwall in south west England. It was seen in Kent heading towards London. It had probably collected its load from one of the south of England ports. The truck was seen in 2000. Allely’s Heavy Haulage. DAF 95 380. This company specialises in the movement of railway trains and carriages. The truck was seen awaiting a police escort at Dartford docks in 2000. It had just returned from France and was taking the train for type approval testing in Rugby, England. Ford Transcontinental 4427. An unusual site on British roads these days. The truck was seen in 1999 and has 1982 number plates. The truck was seen heading to London on the A2 trunk road.
MCD. DAF 85CF. This car transporter has 9 cars on board and was seen in 2001 on the A2 trunk road travelling towards London. P Wirzius. Mercedes 2653. This is a German heavy haulage company with a large fleet of Mercedes trucks. The sheeted load is carried on a 9 axle trailer. I would imagine the vehicle to be approx 100 tons GVW. The truck was seen in the early hours of the morning at Dartford Docks in 2001. Securicor Omega. Renault Premium. This is a large national warehousing and distribution company. The company also has many other varied business interests. The truck was seen in 2001 on the A2 trunk road in Kent.
Hangartner AG. Faun. This is a rare truck that was seen in the east end of London in 1975. Faun mainly specialise in heavy duty cranes and heavy haulage tractors that often haul loads in excess of 250 tons. Pioneer. Mercedes Atego 2628. Pioneeer is an international company which specialises in cement for the building industry. The truck was seen in 2000 in Kent. Scania 144L 460. This truck has customised paintwork and is used as a working truck on a daily basis. The truck was seen at a truck festival in 2000.
D.M.Hughes. Volvo FM 12 380. A typical 4 axle tipper truck with cover to stop debris flying onto the road. Seen locally in Kent, 2001. Scammell Commander. This truck was made specifically for the British Army as a tank transporter. It is now obsolete and will soon be replaced by the American Oshkosh 4 axle tank transporter. This truck was seen at an army vehicle rally in 1998. Transandreu. Scania 164L 580 Topline. A Spanish refrigerated truck haulier with daily journeys to all parts of Europe. The Scania is the top of the range, 580 bhp model. The truck was seen in 2001 on the London Orbital Motorway in Kent.
Gaudin. DAF 95XF Space Cab. A French company which has numerous trucks with air brushed murals. These are working trucks that regularly attend international truck festivals. This truck was seen at a British festival in 2001. ECM. Scania 124L 400. ECM is a car transporting company with a large fleet of varying forms of truck and trailer. The combination shown is carrying 11 cars. The floors can be angled, raised and lowered for maximum carrying efficiency. The truck was seen on the A2 trunk road in Kent, 1999. Flowline. MAN 35.364. A liquid waste management company based in Essex. The truck was seen in 2001 in east London.
H. Freund. Scania 143M 500 Streamline. A German based in Köln, with an English office in Runcorn, UK., that specialises in bulk powder and liquid. The 500 bhp model was top of the range in its day. The truck was seen on the London Orbital Motorway in 2000. Syd Bishop. Foden 4500. A demolition company to the building trade. The truck was seen at Dartford Docks on its way to the continent in 2001. Almafer. Pegaso. This 1980’s model was owned by a Spanish haulier that specialised in refrigerated transport to all parts of Europe. The truck was seen in 1997 on its way back to Dover to catch a ferry back to the Continent.
White and Co. Mercedes Atego. This is a typical truck owned by a house removal and storage company. The truck has accommodation above the cab for extra technicians for the larger heavier move. The truck was seen in 2001 on the London Orbital Motorway. Corrado Bottino. Lancia Esagamma E. The truck was seen in 1975. This model was in production from 1962-1969, the same year the company was taken over by Fiat. The truck was photographed in east London. Scammell Pioneer. This model was mainly used by the British Army as a tractor and wrecker. The truck was seen at an army vehicle rally in Kent in 1998.
Heanor Haulage. Volvo FH16 520. Heanor is one of the leading heavy hauliers in England and have many 3 and 4 axle Volvo tractors in their fleet. This truck has a double jeep bogie and 5 axle Nooteboom trailer.The truck was awaiting a police escort through the Dartford Tunnel in Kent, 2000. Choices. Unipower S24. This is a Scammell with a Unipower badge. When Scammell were bought out, Unipower carried on the manufacture under their name. This particular truck has since been sold to another recovery company called David Crouch. The truck was seen at a truck festival in 1998. Mercedes Actros 2548. This tractor is hauling a typical livestock trailer. The truck was seen in 2000 on the London Orbital Motorway.
