AEC Mandator. British Road Services. BRS was formed when the British haulage industry was nationalised in 1947. This AEC in preservation has the Ergomatic cab which it shared with Albion and Leyland. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. AEC Mercury. M.J.Parry and Sons. This truck is also seen on page 8. Here it is fitted with a two floor livestock body which can be removed so that the truck can be used for general haulage. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. AEC. London Brick Company. This company was started in 1899 and produced most of the bricks for the London building industry. The company was taken over by Hanson in 1984. In the days that this truck was operating all the brick loads were loaded and unloaded by hand. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
AEC Mammoth. J.F.Wells and Sons. This restored high sided dropside truck hauled coal. It has a nice double wheel arch at the rear of the body and was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Atkinson Borderer. Charringtons. Charringtons were a large coal distribution company. The cab of this 1974 truck was fibre glass on a wooden frame. This nice example was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Atkikinson Defender. Dave Lawrence. This restored truck has a modern curtainside body that was not employed in the period of the truck. It also has had a sleeper cab conversion which may be part of its original specification. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Bedford TM 6 x 6. The truck isn't displaying any registration plates but this all wheel drive model is still being used by the British Army today. The truck was seen at the “War and Peace” rally in 2007. Bedford TK. R.C.Jeffrey and Sons. Bedford were a very popular truck of the period but there were very few of the 4 axle variety. The fourth axle may have been a conversion after being delivered by the factory. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Bedford TJ. Trentham Gravel Co Ltd. This restored dropside short wheelbase truck hauled gravel. It has a nice coachline livery and was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Bedford TM. R.C.Jeffrey and Sons. This restored Bedford 4 x 2 tractor unit has the V6 engine. This model was also produced with a V8 engine and that model can be distinguished by its full width cab. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Bussing. This wrecker can be seen with stabilisers supporting the body when in operation. Bussing was a German manufacturer and was taken over by MAN in 1971. The truck was seen at the “War and Peace” rally in 2007. Commer. C.D.Howell and Son. This restored truck is a car transporter rescue vehicle with a cab conversion suitable for taking the family as well as the car at a breakdown. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
DAF 95XF. Syen Braun. This German truck has custom paintwork on its custom cab. It also has an air conditioning unit on its roof independent of the engine. The truck was seen at Norhfleet, Kent in 2007. DAF LF. Royal Mail. The Royal Mail have a large DAF fleet distributing letters and parcels over the whole of the British Isles. This truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. DAF 55. Gravesham Borough Council. This dustcart collects garbage from house to house and has a compacter body unit. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006.
DAF 75CF 290. Chris Hazel Haulage. This truck is in Tarmac livery and this company employs a lot of owner drivers and companies under contract. The truck was seen near Brecon in Wales in 2007. DAF CF. Malary Waste Management. This high cab DAF belongs to a waste management company and was transporting non hazardous waste when seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. DAF 95XF. Van Mulders. This custom painted Belgian truck hauls potatoes. Inside the trailer it has a conveyor belt to assist with the unloading. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
DAF 95 430. Nuttall. This old DAF is seen here hauling a crawler crane on its King trailer. Edmund Nuttall Ltd is a civil engineering company with a large fleet of vehicles covering all aspects of its industry. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. DAF 85 360. Nuttall. This truck was in convoy with the previous picture and is seen transporting the caterpillar tracks of the previous load. The company handles all types of projects but specialises in road and rail infrastructure. The truck was seen in Northfleet, Kent in 2007. DAF CF. Seven. The Seven group of companies are based in Ipswich and part of their operation is fleet management and contract hire. Their truck is seen here hauling a tanker with non hazardous products at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
DAF 95 XF. R. Swain and Sons Ltd. This company is based in Rochester, Kent and is a transportation, warehousing and distribution company. The mainly DAF fleet is usually in the livery of dark green and brown. This red example probably belongs to a sub contractor. The truck was seen hauling gas pipes at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. DAF 85 330. This well used dustcart was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. It is a first series four axle DAF 85 with compacter body. ERF EC14. Allman. This Congleton, Cheshire based company usually have a dark blue livery compared to this models lighter colour. With its exhaust under the front of the cab it could be an ex petrol distribution vehicle. Hauling large section grid mesh the truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
ERF. Bensons. This truck has been restored and is a regular exhibitor at many truck rallies. Originally the truck would have been a multi drop vehicle delivering sweets to its many retail outlets. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. ERF ECT. Nicholls. This model has a cab it shares with MAN who own the company. Nicholls have a mainly Renault and ERF fleet and are based in Sittingbourne, Kent. This truck with its tri-axle tautliner trailer was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. ERF EC8. Harprule. The cab on this ERF dustcart has been set forward to allow easy access on its multi drop refuse collection. Harprule are specialists in Municipal vehicle hire. The truck was seen at Leyton, London in 2007.
ERF ECX. Flo Plast. This rigid truck has a tractor unit cab and curtainsider body for delivering plastic products to the building trade. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. ERF LV. W.H.Mills. This is a traditional eight wheeler of its period. A popular format in the British general haulage scene from its beginning. This ERF was seen at Gaydon in 2007. ERF. Passoni. This is one of ERF's earliest models. The company was started by Edwin Richard Foden in 1938 after a disagreement with the Foden family whom he was a member. ERF has always been a popular vehicle with the British haulage industry. This truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
ERF EC 10. Irvin Leisure. The Irvine family have been in the funfair business for five generations. This ERF with super single front tyres was seen at Hackney, London in 2007. ERF B Series. Waters. This restored tipper with aluminim body has a modern day easy sheet fitted. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Fiat 170. This truck has a rear steer tag axle and removable body. Both hydraulic jacks can be clearly seen on the body. The truck was seen near Montese, Northern Italy in 2006.
Foden Alpha 3000. J. Clubb Ltd. This cement mixer mixes the concrete on site unlike conventional rotating cement mixers. Ideal for residential customers who would like a concrete stand for their cars for example. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Foden. Knowles Transport. This truck is part of a large fleet of old British trucks restored to their former glory. This chinese six axle configuration Foden tractor unit was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Foden Alpha. Irvin Leisure. This tractor unit has been converted to a mobile generator for funfair ride use. With super single tyres on the front this Foden was seen at Hackney, London in 2007.
Foden Alpha. R and S Nichol Ltd. This Foden shares its cab with the DAF 85CF. The Scotttish truck comes from Gretna, a place famous in England for people running away to get married. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Foden Alpha 3000. Plasmor. Supplying building blocks and architectural masonary to the building industry this Yorkshire based company has a large fleet of eight wheelers. This self loading Foden was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Foden 4300. This Foden with sleeper cab probably started life as a building block truck for the construction industry. It has since been converted for fairground use and was seen at Hackney, London in 2006.
Foden S 20. Ken Thomas. Ken Thomas is no longer trading and this restored truck with the famous Thomas livery is seen hauling a lightweight tandem axle trailer and was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Thames Trader. K.W.Williams. This restored truck has a traditional livery of its time and was the forerunner of the popular “D” series of the 70's in England. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Iveco 430. Bedfords Transport. This is a West Yorkshire company which also has Volvo trucks in its fleet. With its tri axle curtainsider trailer the truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
Iveco 430. DHL. Now owned by Deutsche Post since 2002 this company moves documents, parcels and international freight with its mixed fleet of truck manufacturers. The small Deutsche logo can be seen on the curtain and this truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Iveco Eurocargo. Ellis Furniture. This truck and trailer with sleeper pod has demountable body units for bulk haulage. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Iveco Eurotech. R and A Recovery. This truck appears to be converted from a tri axle tractor unit with the fourth axle added for heavy duty recovery work. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Leyland Bison. This model truck was very popular as a tipper and Leyland at the time used animal names for a lot of their range. This restored version was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Leyland Martian. This ex army 6 x 6 vehicle was ideal for civilian recovery use when it became to be replaced by the army. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Leyland Octopus. This tanker has been restored in the nice crisp Esso livery. This outstanding example was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Leyland Constructor 30.30. Hydro Cleansing Ltd. This very tidy gulley sucker is 20 years old belonging to a waste management company based in Croydon, Surrey. The truck was seen at Paddock Wood, Kent in 2007. MAN 630. This old MAN is a 4 x 4 in army livery and was seen at an Army Vehicle Rally at Paddock Wood, Kent in 2007. MAN TGA 18.450. Baja-Yu. This international transport company is based in Serbia. The company has MAN and Mercedes tractor units and this MAN is seen hauling a tilt trailer. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007.
MAN TGA 41.460. This is a Continental left hand drive import to Britain for extra heavy recovery. The truck can be seen with a high bumpers giving it more ground clearance for off road use. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. MAN TGA 26.430. David Dale Removals. With its XXL cab both the truck and trailer have demountable curtainside bodies. Based in Yorkshire the company specialises in both national and international removals. The truck was seen at Gravesend in 2007. MAN TGA 26.430. DHL. This MAN is hauling a Nooteboom combi tailer. Both the middle and rear axles lift on this unit. The truck was seen at its depot on the Isle of Grain, Kent in 2007.
MAN TGA 26.460. DJV Transport. This low roof MAN belongs to an Essex based company with offices in many British ports for easy custom clearance. Specialising in forest products the truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. MAN TGA. Fleetmix. This smart mixer has high ground clearance for on site work. It is a 2007 model and was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. MAN TG 360 A. Hunter Plastics. This unit with its demountable body is a drawbar unit belonging to a plastic manufacturing company based in Woolwich, London. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006.
MAN. Mickey Lee. This curtainsider bodied truck appears to be a 4 x 2 tractor unit stretched with a tag axle added. It was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. MAN. This Dutch tractor unit with its Roadhaus cab is seen hauling a Frans Maas curtainside trailer. With depots throughout Europe the truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. Mercedes 1113. This old Mercedes model was a very popular model throughout the world and many are still being used today. This one with extended cab is a 4 x 4 with Dutch registration and looks like a personnel carrier, probably ex army. It was seen at an Army Rally at Paddock Wood, Kent in 2007.
Mercedes Axor. F.M.Conway Ltd. This model is fitted with a self loading grab unit and is travelling empty because the load covering sheet isn't employed. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Mercedes. Albert Beets. This Dutch registered truck has been restored and attends Truck Rallies throughout Europe. This very nicely presented bonneted Mercedes was seen at Gaydon in 2006. Mercedes Actros. Brit European. With its colour coded grill this truck has steel mudguards for hauling hazardous tanker loads. Based in Crewe the company provides Pan European solutions for automotive, bulk liquid and contract distribution. This particular truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007.
Mercedes Actros Megacab. Craven Transport. Based in Lincolnshire this company has a mixed fleet of tractor units all with a striking orange livery. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Mercedes 1820. C.R.E. Transport Ltd. This London based truck is in good condition for its age with its curtainside body. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Mercedes 35.48. Bohnet Schwertransporte. This German company specialises in the moving of heavy and abnormal loads and has a large fleet of heavy duty tractor units and multi axle trailers. This truck was seen at Dartford Docks in 2002.
Mercedes Atego 2528. Murray Hogg. This company is based at Newcastle upon Tyne and is a haulage, storage and distribution company. This truck with its rear lift axle was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Mercedes Actros. Orangebox. This truck with its bright all orange livery and single axle trailer was seen near Brecon in Wales in 2007. The company specialise in the research and development of seating for the commercial environment. Renault Magnum. This appears to be a traction only unit used for hauling unaccompanied trailers at the docks. Displaying the Welsh dragon on the unit, the truck has Irish number plates. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
Renault Premium. Fergusons Transport. This new Premium model has a Volvo engine. The truck also displays the new Ferguson livery. The truck was seen at Gravesend in 2006. Renault Magnum. S.M.McGowan. This truck has a bumper view forward mounted mirror as well as bindspot mirrors on both sides of the cab. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Renault Premium. Saville's Freights Ltd. Savilles have a mixed fleet of vehicles from 1.5 to 44 tons suitable for all types of freight and distribution. This truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
Scammell Constructor. This tractor unit has had a full restoration and was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Scammell S 24. This ex army Landtrain has left hand drive and is ideal for heavy duty recovery in civilian use. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Scammell Explorer. This 6 x 6 ex army truck was seen at a Scammell Road Run at Paddock Wood in 2005.
Scammell Highwayman. Rapidor. This model was very popular in the British heavy haulage industry. This model with ballast box was seen at a Scammell Road Run at Paddock Wood in 2005. Scania 124L 360. Nelson Anderson and Sons. This truck appears to be a stretched tractor unit with an added axle. With its ramped body it is ideally suited for transporting industrial plant. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Scania 141. ASG Transport. This restored Scania is in the livery of ASG, a Swedish company, and also Middle East spec with its roof rack and ladders. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Scania R420. Bischof. This Austrian company have cold storage facilities and distribute food in their refrigerated trailers. This truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. Scania Vabis. A. Hingley Transport Ltd. This model came to Britain in the 60's and took a big chunk out of the general haulage market being superior to the British trucks at the time. This restored truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Scania R470. McGivern International. This truck has typical Irish livery and has an air conditioning unit on its roof that runs independently from the engine. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
Scania 124L 420. Barry Morgan. This Welsh company specialises in timber haulage and is seen here hauling logs on its specially designed trailer. The truck was seen near Brecon in Wales in 2007. Scania 114L 340. Poundhouse. This company delivers mixed concrete as well as this truck shown which mixes on site. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. Scania 143 450. Searle. This is a plant hire company and the STGO Cat 2 tractor unit is hauling an Extec stone crusher. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
Scania 113M 360 Streamline. S.J.Armstrong. This tidy Streamline Scania is hauling a tautliner trailer and was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. Scania T Cab 530. This custom painted Scania is hauling an empty bulk trailer as the sheet can be seen rolled ready for use. There are not too many of these bonneted trucks in England and they are no longer being imported. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006. Scania 113M 360. A. Winchester and Sons. This eight wheeler has a rolonof body and can be seen fully loaded with its sheet in place. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006.
Scania 143M Streamline. This is an ex Roy Gill truck famous for their dark blue livery and custom paintwork. This truck has been resprayed red and sports a 550 badge although Scania did not make a 550 model. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Seddon Atkinson 401. M.E. Freear. This restored vehicle has a ballast box fitted on this tractor unit which was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Registered in 1986 the truck is only 20 years old and you still see the occasional one on British roads today. Seddon DD8. Richardsons. This nicely restored 8 x 4 dropside vehicle was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Capable of a 16 ton payload the truck probably has a Gardner 6LX engine.
Seddon Atkinson. Securicor. When Seddon amalgamated with Atkinson this was the first model delivered to the public. International Harvester purchased the company in 1975. The truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Seddon Atkinson Strato 210. In 1992 the company was taken over by Iveco and this model shares its cab with the Iveco models of the time. This 4 x 2 skip lorry was seen at Darford, Kent in 2004. Sentinel 4/4. Neil A Matlock. Sentinel started life manufacturing steam lorries and then diesel powered trucks. They stopped manufacturing in 1956 and this superb roped and sheeted example was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Steyr 19 S 46. Part of the MAN group this truck shares the MAN cab. The truck is built in Austria and this particular truck was registered in Bulgaria. With its tilt trailer the truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Thornycroft Swiftsure. Joules. This truck is restored as a brewers dray and was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Like Sentinel the company started life producing steam vehicles and were ultimately taken over in 1961 by the ACV group. Ural. This 6 x 6 Russian army truck was seen at Paddock Wood, Kent in 2007 at an Army Truck Rally. Originally manufacturing started during the second world war in the Ural Mountains and the company still produces a variety of modern trucks today.
Volvo FH 12. George Allinson Ltd. Based in Darlington, County Durham this company has over 100 vehicles and 250 trailers offering all aspects of storage and transport solutions. The truck, with its nice bright livery, was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Volvo FM 12. Archbold Express Haulage. This truck has a maximum height curtainsider trailer for U.K. distribution only. With depots all over the London to Midlands area the company is ideally suited for storage and distribution logistics. The truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007. Volvo FH 12 460. h.j.van bentum. This vehicle has a striking blue and silver livery and is fitted with a stabilising axle. This Dutch company has over 250 units and specialises in silo and cross channel movement. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2006.
Volvo F7. London Brick Company. This truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. It has a day cab giving the vehicle maximum payload and the loading crane runs within the built in rails on the side of the tandem axle trailer. Volvo F 88 240. Carpenters. This restored truck was first registered in 1972 and has the small silver grill signifying its 240 bhp. The larger black grill models have 290 bhp. An extremely popular model when it was first imported into the U.K, the truck was seen at Gaydon in 2007. Volvo N12. Econofreight. This restored truck is in the livery of Econofreight a famous heavy haulage company that is now owned by A.L.E. The volvo is in the format of a ballast unit and was seen at Gaydon in 2007.
Volvo FH 12 420. D. Hogg. This Volvo with its abnormal low loader load was seen at Dartford Docks, Kent in 2000. This Midland based truck is seen fitted with a heavy duty bull bar. Volvo F12. Mathews. This Globetrotter cabbed tractor unit was seen at Detling, Kent in 2006. Now used as a fairground hauler it is more than capable of handling the lighter loads it has to carry. Volvo FM 12. Ovenden. Celebrating 50 years of trading this Aylesham based company has a gold livery on this rolonof four axle truck. The company specialises in plant hire, demolition and earth moving and the truck was seen at Northfleet, Kent in 2007.
Volvo FM 7. Poundhouse. This Dartford based concrete delivering company has a tidy fleet of trucks. This small mixer is ideal for local deliveries and was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007. Volvo FM 7 290. Tarmac. This truck features a Topreach cement delivery unit ideal for delivering its load over distance and obstacles. Tarmac is a large group of companies and delivery cement is just a small part of the work this company does for all types of industries. The truck was seen near Brecon, Wales in 2007. Volvo FH 12 460. Kenneth Twyford. These well turned out bulk powder tankers all have pressurized equipment for unloading. The Derbyshire based company has a mixed fleet of tri axle tractor units and this Volvo has a space and weight saving stabilising axle. The truck was seen at Gravesend, Kent in 2007.
