Mike served his Country in the RCASC from 1959-1965 serving two tours in Egypt (Gaza) with the UN Emergency Force. Mike trained at Camp Borden, Shilo and was stationed at Jericho and Chilliwack.

After his discharge he drove for Greyhound, Gulf Oil and Rempel-Trail & Tank Truck Service, fine companies who were taken over by Cornat Industries the buyer of Johnston Terminals who provided some interesting equipment to their subsidiary companies including these Death Traps. Of the 5 rigs four trucks were wrecked and 3 drivers were killed. Incompetent management ordering equipment.

After Cornat took over Mike moved to Mara Lake driving for CP Bulk Systems at Armstrong and as a Teamster at the Revelstoke Dam Project and at the Highways Dept. Sicamous as a Winter work aux.

His next move was north to the Peace where he drove for Turner Gas & Oil at Wonowon with his own Hayes which he built up

These were taken along the Hope-Princeton Highway east of Tower's Ranch. Mike was driving the Tank-Truck Service Freightliner trying to avoiding hitting the Trimac tied in a knot.
Here is one of the "Death Traps"
The driver was Al Tetlock
Hayes HD taken in Fort St John, BC in 1996
This picture shows his 1960 Bedford w/Reefer Trailer in the Gaza Strip. It was Diesel powered 5X2 & Ruxzell axle. This dandy Hayes (left) was Mike MacKay’s which suffered a fire . Mike & Mike rebuilt it with the cab from the yellow Hayes shown (right). Mike MacKay used the rebuild for many years mainly for Benson Tank Lines.
