Location: Near Sarre-Union, France.
Date: February 2013.
Remarks: Northbound on the A-4. What a nice suprise when still more than four and a half hour to go until home...
Location: Antwerp, Belgium.
Date: February 2013.
Truck: DAF 95XF SpaceCab.
Company, homebase: Wijsen Logistics. Maastricht.
Remarks: Still going strong after almost 150.0000 kilometres ( 932056 miles ). Taken on a beautifull, warm, sunny day in the port of Antwerp.
Location: Genk, Belgium.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: March the 12th. Spring? Ehh... Extremely cold air from the Northeast, with strong winds, gusting up to 38 knots, in combination with a rainfront moving in from the West causing a severe snowstorm in Brittany,
Normandy, Northern France, Luxemburg, Belgium, the South of the Netherlands, and Western Germany. I had a trip into Belgium that day and it took me all day to make 3 drop off's in Opglabbeek, Beringen, and Antwerp. Belgium suffered that day the most heaviest morning rushhour ever with over 1600 km ( 994 miles ) on traffic jams. Eventhough I didn't see one of them, it took me all day to get rid of my load!
Location: Near Genk, Belgium.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: More... And more...
Location: Near Hensies, Belgium.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway E-19. The next day dispatch gave me a nice trip into France. Starting in Compans, then Pfailly, and finally St. Quentin. A one day trip... NOT! As Northern France was closed for trucks due to a heavy snowstorm the day before, you still can see a line of waiting trucks on the hard shoulder about 2 miles before the French border. Sofar, so good...
Location: Near Thun l'Évêque, France
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-2. After passing the tollbooth of Thun l'Évêque. More big rigs on the hard shoulder and no opposite traffic... Oh oh...
Location: Near Cambrai, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-2. Entering the back of a huge traffic jam...
From this point al the way down to Paris. More than 153 kilometres ( 95 miles ) in one trafficjam. Highway A-2 as well the A-1 were one large parkinglot. But on this pic we were still moving...
Location: Near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Now we came to a stop wich took 3 hours. Nothing moved at all, while the A-2 and the A-1 were impossible to drive. Snow and stucked traffic blocked both highways, as well the A-26 and the A-29.
Location: Near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Waiting big rigs everywhere.
Location: near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Both lanes blocked. My unfortuned neighbours were five young ladies on their way from the Netherlands to Disneyland Paris for two days... What became one day now.
Location: Near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Hey... Do I see a moving rig on the other side?
Location: Near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-2. Crawling forward again. An unfortunate Lithuanian driver thought he could parked up his truck on the hard shoulder... No way!
Location: Graincourt-lès-Havrincourt, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: As the A-2 and the A-1 were closed, we were forced to take the A-26 southbound towards Reims. That was the only oppertunity to reach paris that day. However, that means a lot of extra kilometres. My intentions were to take the road via Soissons towards Compans...
Location: Near Marcoing, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-26. The A-26 northbound, towards Calais was blocked too.
Location: Near St. Quentin, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-26. More waiting big rigs as the A-29 towards Amiens was closed too. Even for me St. Quentin was the end for that day as the road via Soissons was closed too. I drove to the customer in St. Quentin, although he was the last on my list. He had to empty my whole rig to reach his load and seeing the given circumstances he had no problems with that.
Location: St. Quentin. France.
Date: March 2012.
Remarks: Nowhere to go now. So I ended up in the late afternoon at the parking lot of the Leclerc supermarket in St Quentin. Although there's a parkingprohibition for big rigs, the manager personally came to tell me that
parking was allowed. He offered the toilets for free. Even if the shop was closed, we could report ourselves to the guard. This was my dinner for that night... At least we had plenty of food. And later thet night the police
stopped by to ask if I wanted to eat, so they could bring me to a restaurant... Unfortunally, people who were stucked on the A-2 and A-1 had no help for two and a half day.
Location: St. Quentin, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: As you can see on this pic, I was not the only one who was stucked at Leclerc in St. Quentin.
Location: Near Roye, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-1, on my way towards Compans... Whoops...
Location: Near Compiègne, France
Date: March 2013.
Remarks:Southbound highway A-1. In the early morning of March the 14th, the radio reported all major highways open again. However, the "route national" via Soissons was still closed. That leaded me to Compans via the A-29 and the A-1. The A-29 had huge snowwalls beside the road and at some places they had to remove the snow with shovels and trucks, leaving at some places 3 metres ( 9 feet ) high snowwalls. Unfortunally it was very foggy in that area so all the pics taken there were useless. Here you see the A-1 near
Compiègne, still suffering traffic jams going southbound.
Location: Near Compiègne, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: And some lateron a northbound traffic jam.
Location: Compans, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: A problem never comes alone... While backing up the door at the receiver in Compans, huge steamclouds escape from under the cab. After lifting the cab examination cleares the leak of a coolanttube. While waiting for the DAF ITS Service I took some pics of landing aircraft at runway 26L of Charles de Gaulle airport, wich is very close to Compans like this Air France Boeing B777-300.
Location: Epiais-les-Louvres, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: And then to Plailly via the D-212, wich leads close to runway 27R and 27L at CdG airport. That is where I've been overtaken by an A-380-200 of Emirates takeing off at runway 27L.
Location: Northbound highway A-1, between Roye and Combles, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: De reminders of what happend 48 hours ago on the hard shoulder.
Location: Northbound highway A-1, near Assevillers, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Huge snowdunes beside the highway.
Location: Near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Nortbound highway A-2 again. The town of Fontaine Notre Dame in a colourfull distance.
Location: Near Fontaine Notre Dame, France.
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: The circle completed...
Location: Crespin, France
Date: March 2013.
Remarks: Northbound highway A-2. Approaching the French-belgian border.
