Date: August 2009.
Remarks: The In de Klaver truckstop is situated in Niebert in the north of the Netherlands on the old highway between Heerenveen and Groningen. It is a good place to be with good food, good showerfacilities, and a quiet parkingplace. I was there three times before this time in 2009, but I was not able to take pictures due to weatherconditions or lack of daylight.
Location: Niebert. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: The parkinglot of the In de Klaver.
Location: Westbound highway A-7 near Bolsward. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: After unloading in Drachten I picked up a load in Sneek for the Heineken-brewerie in Zoeterwoude. August is vacation-time in the Netherlands, and vacation time in the Netherlands means that lot's of people spending their vacation on their boat. Drachten, Sneek, as well Bolsward is in the Dutch province of Friesland, wich is the "lake-province" of the Netherlands. Lot's of small channels connect those lakes with eachother. And ofcourse these channels will be crossed by highways like in this case highway A-7. So then it happend that the bridgecrossing will be opened to let passing through the tourist-vessels. For the people on the road it means waiting untill the channel is clear and the bridge can be closed. Oh well.....still 2 and a half day to go untill my own vacation here.....
Location: Bolsward. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: If you take a closer look you see the pole of a yacht passing through.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Zurich. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Approaching the Afsluitdijk near the small village of Zurich. No, this is not Zürich in Switzerland, but Zurich in Friesland or Fryslan like the Frysian people say.
Location: Westbound highway A-7 near Zurich.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Entering the Afsluitdijk. On the left the IJssellake, on the right behind the dyke the Northsea. On page 4 of my European truckpictures you see a similar picture taken on the other side near Den Oever when going eastbound.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Zurich, Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Just to make clear....You are on the Afsluitdijk.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Kornwerderzand, Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: The Afsluitdijk is having 2 locks, one on the eastside and the other on the westside. Ships are able to pass through these locks from the Northsea to the IJssellake, as well the other direction. There's no seaport on the IJssellake so the locks are unable for vessels larger than a fishingboat. On this picture I'm about to pass the Lorentzlock on the eastside of the Afsluitdijk at Kornwerderzand.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Kornwerderzand.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: View on the Northsea near the Lorentzlocks.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Kornwerderzand. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Here you see the Lorentzsluicelocks. Via these locks all the water coming from the IJssel-river into the IJssellake, can flew to the Northsea.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Kornwerderzand, Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: View on the Afsluitdijk. In the distance you see the parkinglot of Breezanddijk, wich is more than 10 kms ( 6.2 miles ) away from present position. The afsluitdijk has a total length of 30 kms ( 18.6 miles ) .
Location: Westbound highway A-7, Breezanddijk, Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: The Breezanddijk parkinglot is mainly for tourist although there's a gasstation with some space to park a few rigs. On the westboundside you'll drive on top of the dyke, so you can see at your left the IJssellake, and at the right the Northsea. In the distance you can see the coastline of the province North-Holland, wich is 15 kms ( 9.3 miles ) away from Breezanddijk.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Den Oever. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: During the summervacation the Afsluitdijk is full of tourist from all over the world. That explains all the fourwheelers, bikers, and cyclist.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Den Oever. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Here you see the "monument". This included a statue of civil engineer Lely, and a watchtower. Civil engineer Lely presented in 1891 his firts plans of closing down the "Zuiderzee" by the Afsluitdijk, and transformed it in a lake, the IJssellake. He also planned to make polders of the whole IJssellake. But only the Wieringermeer, Noordoostpolder, and the Flevopolder came finally. A polder called the Markerwaard is never be finished. There's only a dyke wich is now a higway between Enkhuizen and Lelystad. What had to be the Markerwaard is now the Markerlake. In 1927 they started to build the Afsluitdijk. In 1932 they closed down the last hole, and in 1933 the 2 lane highway was finished. Originally the Afsluitdijk would be a 2 lane highway and a 2-track railroad. However, the railway was cancelled so now there's a four lane highway and a bikerroad. Due to the climat-change the Afsluitdijk must be bigger and higher in the future. Within 15 years the Dutch government will order to start these works.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, near Den Oever. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Here you see the statue of civil engineer Lely. Originally this statue stood at the Afsluitdijk-entrance at Den Oever. Back in the seventies 2-lane highway N-7 became fourlane highway A-7, and the statue stood in the way. For more than 20 years the statue stood in between the east- and westbound lanes, but lateron they decide to move it to the "monument", where it has a better place now on top of the dyke.
Location: Westbound highway A-7, Near Den Oever. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: A view on the IJssellake in the direction of Medemblik.
Location: Den Oever. Holland. Westbound highway A-7.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: About to enter the Stevinsluicelocks on the westside of the Afsluitdijk. The red tower to the right is the Den Oever-lighthouse, although lighthouse is a big word for a beacon.

Location: Southbound highway A-7, near Medemblik. Holland.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Clearly visible that highway A-7 is a quiet highway. However, this is the summervacationseason so I have doubts or the A-7 is also so quiet during the other periods.
Location: Zaandam. Holland. Southbound highway A-8.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: About to enter Amsterdam-orbital. It is not that clearly visible, but at the left you can see an electronic signpost wich shows the trafficjams on the orbital. The orbital shows all white now so there are no trafficjams. When there's a red spot on the electronic orbital it means there's a trafficjam.

Date: August 2009.
Remarks: Approaching Schiphol-Amsterdam IAP.
Location: Near Hoofddorp. Holland. Southbound highway A-4.
Date: August 2009.
Remarks: When coming out of the Schiphol-tunnel on the A-4, you will have this view on the aiport's bufferapron's. A KLM MD-11, B747-400, and 2 A-330-200"s are waiting to towed to the terminal for their next flight.
