Location: Zaltbommel. Holland.
Date: April 2006.
Remarks: Southbound highway A-2. Here you see the new "weapon" from the Dutch Ministery of Traffic against traffic jams: Blockriding! About 5 kilometres before where the traffic jam should start, a policecar pick up the traffic on the middle of the road, on and on. It slows down to 80 km/h. How closer to the source of the traffic jam, how slower it goes. At the picture we are about 1 km of the source, and the speed is 50 km/h now. In the distance you can see that three lanes merged into two lanes, wich is the reason of the daily southbound trafficjam near Zaltbommel. My first experience with this way of avoiding trafficjams is not bad. But this is certainly not the solution to end up all these traffic jams in the Netherlands!!!
