Brings back lot's of good memories. I worked for ONC in the early 1960. Ernie Butt's was the terminal manager in Portland Oregon. He along with George White were good teachers. I will always rember my days with ONC.

I worked for Western-Gillette and then Roadway for 39 years. Retired 7 years ago. Enjoyed looking at the trucks, it's a shame most of those companies are long gone. It brought back a lot of memories. I have the old WG or Cantlay-Tanzola Anniversary brochure issued in 1958 showing the White Freightliners, tankers, and the rest of their fleet.

I just bought a KB8 Tractor w/fifth wheel for $12. Seems to be complete except for the back set of duals have been cut off. I was used in the ship yards in Portland, Oregon. I'll keep looking as they were the first truck I was in as a kid at the age of 8, my dad drove one hauling cattle in New York State for a livestock sales company and I was lucky enough to go with him and now at the age of 57 I am a retired truck driver myself

I can not believe that I found a site that had Willig Freight Lines pictures. I grew up at Willig where my dad was a terminal manager at 6 Willig terminals from Ft. Bragg to L.A. I too beacame a Willig terminal manager at the age of 19 but left at the age of 21 after 5 years with Willig to go into another line of work. These pictures will go well with my "Willig Wall" that contains pictures and documents dating from the early 1930's on. Willig runs in my blood and it's good to see that it's not forgotten.

I'm glad to see someone collecting memorabilia on Hayes trucks. I grew up in Vancouver admiring these trucks and still notice when one goes by -although that's rare these days. My father spent all of his adult life working in the trucking industry for companies like Interstate Motor Freight Systems, Associated Transport, and Jones Motor. Seeing the pictures of their old trucks brought back a lot of great memories of my father and I just wanted to say thank you. You have a great site!

My dad worked at transcon for the longest time and was still with them when they went out of business. He (Henry Rieken) died in July of 2000, but I know he would have loved to visit this site. He always loved working at Transcon.

Very nice website. My dad was a truckdriver in Oregon from abt 1930 until the mid 70's. He drove Greyhound buses, Lumber trucks, and for several years delivery trucks for Meir and Franks. Does someone make or convert full size trucks to small ones? I'm looking for something different to tow a 8000 LB fifth-wheel travel trailer. I hope to move back to Oregon in the next year or so. This is a nice website. I came across it while I was looking for information on Transcon. My dad worked for them until they shut down in 1990. He soon worked for Roadway until his untimely death in July of 2000. If he were still here, I am sure that he would look at this site, even though he would not touch a computer with a 10 foot pole.

hey i love your site we drive a 1999 international eagle 9400 with the condo sleeper, on it, we really loce it we drive 48 states and this trusk is really comfortable, and its spacoise and lots of storage space, and its purple, we name it ~barney~ it is a great truck...

In 1904, my Grandfather Emery P. Johnston left his Fathers wagon shop in Athens PA and moved to Homer NY to build wagons with George Brockway. Fifty-fifve years later he retired as Assistant plant superintendant of Brockway Motor Trucks. My Dad built Brockways in the war effort and later sold Brockways all over central NY.

These great pictures bring back very fond memories of the great people and equipment at PIE. The too short 5 years I spent as Safety and Security Director in the late 80's saw the demise of this venerable trucking company...the best in customer service. It was a very sad day. Hi, I see your site has mainly more modern trucks, here in the UK the only Diamond T's, any one will ever have heard of, is the WW2 military trucks, the most common being the 980 and 981's . I have a half share in a 1945 Diamond T 975 ex Canadian army, which we believe may be one of only two in the UK. It would be interesting to know if there are any 980 or 981 still around in the USA, as they were a truck built mainly for the British army. Do you know of any?

I love all those old truck pictures!!!!! I am a mixer driver and it is hard for me to picture a mixer truck (or for that matter, tandem axle rigs and tractor-trailers) with gas motors. Between all the shop time and drinking fuel like it's going out of style, a gas motor just can't cut it for the heavy jobs. Anyhoo, i love those old Diamond T's and B-series Macks anyway, even if alot of them ran gas motors under the hood. I'd just about give my eye teeth to get my hands on either!!!!!!!

I have a 1959 White 4264 that I am restoring.My father drove it in the late 60s and early 70s.It came with a 470A gas engine but was changed to a 6-71 Detroit due to a vapor locking problem while hauling big cranes.I have had it 4 or 5 years and hope to have it done soon.

Back in the 50s there was a converted American-LaFrance truck with a Allison or Rolls-Royce aircraft engine installed in it that ran produce from the Yakima Valley of Washington State to Southern California and ran produce from California back to Washington. This truck was a legend and for years I have heard stories about it. like Burning a set of rear ends out on almost every trip. And of course being able to outrun every other rig on the road and on and on.

Does anyone remember this truck. Can you add to the stories and even come up with a picture of it.

Another legend was Bill Liberty who ran his famous Black Cat rig from California to Victoria BC hauling produce for the Chinese restaurant produce suppliers in Victoria. he was well know and ran until the 70s. Anyone remember him? Pictures maybe???

I enjoyed your photos of White Trucks... I put myself through college working on the dock for Quinn Freight Lines who used White Trucks exclusively... Except for the last trucks they purchased which were Fords... The Fords put them out of the business... I Farm on a part time basis..
Recently I puchased a 1977 White Road Boss 1... It was an old Shanahan Express Tractor... I stretched the frame approx. 3 feet and added a Midwest 14 ft. grain dump... Painted it Quinn colors,,, Red, with a green stripe and white on the top... Added a big Chrome front Bumper..
Looks great and runs the same.

Found your site by search engine. A friend of mine is restoring a 1950 White Mustang and was trying to find some info and came up with your site. I own a Kenworth K100 with CAT 3408 engine, I believe only about 20 V8 CATs were installed in Australian KWs, mainly for hauling 3 trailer road-trains at 115 tons gross weight in the Northern Territory. The engines are 18 liters or 1100 cubic inches, big mothers! I haul two 45' trailers to Perth WA, a round trip of 4400 miles.

I grew up around trucks, although I dont drive for a living, my love for trucks is still strong. One of the trucks my dad owned was a 1970 Mack (Log truck). In 1970 or 71 it hauled the Jaycee log across the states. The dealer in Eugene that we bought the truck from had a picture of it on his wall. It was Red White and Blue with stars and stripes. Im still searching for a copy of this picture. Am also interested in picture of mid 60's Kenworth, as I have just aquired one that I am going to restore.

My dad and uncle worked for Lang Transportation Company in the 1930s. My father worked as a
driver and mostly as a mechanic. He was a foreman in the shop in Blythe, CA. I have a lot of
old pictures that I plan to scan and share with others. The trucks are all open cab.

Does anyone know what happened to Lang Transportation? I know that the owner was Mike Lang
and I think the company became Pacific Intermountain Express. I still have some Lang letterhead
stationary. I believe Mike Lang was a early entrepreneur in Los Angeles.

Great site! A love trucks, trains and buses, so your site was a great find. I really enjoy the photos of fallen flag truck lines. I used to drive back to the midwest every summer and couldn't get enough of the trucks on old Route 66. I love the site. I have to fill any guy in on some info if they love there trucks, and by chance are grtting it repaired. I took my truck infor repair to fisco auto body and that was seven month ago. It vame back unsafe for the road much worse than it went in. and any one out there from milwaukee. Dont take your truck to badger trans. co the new trans never was fixed after seven months of repair. I pay I have dead truck, Now way to fix, Insurance for people who crashed the truck tell were to get off and I cant work I have a broken neck. all because of badger trans ,and fisco auto body milwaukee.

We are now buying tractors with the ten speed automatic transmission. My son Glenn and myself took the first one on a trial run from Kelowna to Vancouver,Calgary and back to Kelowna.If I had one about forty years ago I would still be Driving. Like your pics very much, brings back old memorys. I started on a B 61 then got a B 81 with a Quad box. they were tough trucks. I'm looking at a B 30 gas but don't know much about it , They say its a 1956 with a 401 ,5 speed, with air brakes. Going to look at it this week , its in a box, needs to be put back together. Your photos brought back a lot of memories...I've been driving since 1974 and have owned Freightliner Cabovers since 1986 pulling mostly steel (including oversize), auto freight (in 48's and 53's)and fuel in A and B-trains. It's good to see the older equipment from the pre-electronic days. My current tractor is a '90 Freightliner COE (well maintained ex-Sunoco fuel tractor from Ontario) and I'm hauling two oil tankers between Vancouver and Hope and Vancouver Island.

Nice to see that someone is saving a part of our North American industrial heritage. My great uncle, long ago deceased, was the founder in 1898 of J. B. Baillargeon Express Ltd.
Unfortunately, the company, as such, no longer exists. This company was a pioneer in trucking in Quebec. Involved in general trucking for many years, it sold its express division in the late 40s or early 50s and then concentrated on household moving and what was considered then as heavy hauling (boilers, machinery etc.). It was for many years an Allied Van Lines agent in both Montreal and Quebec City. My older brother was for most of his life involved in buying/refurbishing/selling trucks. I worked for him as a summer job for a number of years, as general help in the garage and remember (with mixed feelings, I might add...) those days and how proud we both were when a unit was ready for sale and looked almost new. I wish I had kept some of the pictures I took then. All I have is a booklet printed for J.B. Baillargeon Eaxpress Ltd. circa 1949 on the occasion of the company's 50th anniversary. I am trying to get my son to scan the pictures so that they may be shared on the net. Insofar as my uncle's company doing business in B.C., all I can remember is that my brother in the late 50s was hired as a helper for furniture moving and did go out west. As I remember, the rig was a White 3000 in the Allied Van Lines colours (I recall seing colour pictures, which, again, unfortunately I don't have)He must of been around Vancouver since, as a child, I remember that he had bought as a souvenir of his trip some plaster casting of a life-buoy form the Nanaimo ferry, complete with strings around it, which hung on the wall of our bathroom for many years.
I recall my brother saying that these 3000s needed an almost complete overhaul once back in Montreal after a trip out west.

I was also a truck driver and Owner/Operator for 15 yrs. In August of 2000, Ca. DMV revoked my CDL because I became a "Type-1" diabetic. Im in the process of fighting to get my CDL back, but its a long road... If I dont succeed my wife said she'll climb behind the wheel.

Howdy,

I'm sure some of you are familure with the song Convoy by CW Mcall. Well, I was listening to it again yesterday and I was wondering if anyone could tell me or direct me to a picture of what a Reefer is "...cab over Pete with a Reefer on..." Also, what is a swindle sheet? "...we tore up our swindle sheets and left them sitting on the scales..."

Thanks for any help in advance. It will bring a sharper picture to my mind of what he is talking about and something I've been wondering for close to 20 years.

Like many of you I grew up in a old mack B-61 , used to spend my summers riding around with my dad ( 1960 cir. ), so now after all these years , I'am being pulled back into a truck , thought I would look around for a old truck to restore and have some fun with that . looking at all these pictures sure brings back the meriories , my dad started trucking about 1930 out of Idaho and then Montana as soon as I figure out where some of the pictures are if allowed maybe I can post them here . Great web site ,really neat truck pictures. It was great to see the Super Boss again ,but kinda sad that Gary Reese changed it some. I still can remember Tyrone Malone getting 15,000 fans to there feet in Nuburgring Germany in 1989. He did burnouts and they went crazy. He was something else with that truck. I wonder if Mr.Reese can do with the truck,what Tyrone Malone could do. He is surely missed.

I started as an apprentice mechanic at White Trucks in 1968.I was looking for some good looking units.
I like to know the year as these trucks changed very little over the years and the changes are subtle, but they are there.
Athern models makes HO scale cabover but it has mistakes. I think your site is GREAT, and a good history lesson for some.
Great fun. I owned a U model Mack with a bunk for about six years, I will try to get a scan of a picture for you.

i am a 20 year old owner/operator, that has seen a lot of things since i was 15 when i started driving for an owner/operator, i am glad that i found this sight, because when i started driving back a few years ago, i was actually riding around in a 1950's model mack, that we had custom done for two people, a lot of cutting, and welding, but we got it done, and then it was to a 1979 Peterbilt 359 which i still have right now, i like to look at your pictures, bring back memories of all the truck shows i went to, the last being in Wildwood Florida, when i was down there, at exit 60

Just found your website today (have been on it for at least half the day). Under the "Miscellaneous Tankers" you have a picture of a Mack tanker from Petroleum Heat and Power -- my father worked for this company for 35 years and remembers that truck when he started in 1952 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I showed him all the different tractors you have on your site and he drove nearly all of them at one point in his career. Thanks for a great website.

I owned a'63 Pete Logger for 17 years, and put 1.38 million miles on her. Put a 3406B Cat motor in it in '88. Sold her when the enviros put an end to logging in this area.

Have always been interested in trucks since I was a kid. I used to have a truck spotters book when I was in high school from the late 50's and early 60's. Sure wish I had it now! Your site is most interesting. Very interesting how trucks and trailers have changed over the years, especially the old car haulers. They did not carry many cars compared to the present day haulers. I operate road trains throughout Northern Australia these are a unique Australian invention found no where else in the world ( because no one else would be stupid enough to think of such an idea) I can assure you they are a challenge to operate and there is nothing like the throb of a 600 plus horse power engine underneath your bonnet which will launch the truck and 3 trailers grossing 120 tonne up.

I enjoyed the photo of White Trucks... During my college years I worked for Quinn Freight Lines as a dock worker. I
became fond of their fleet of White Trucks, especially the
White Road Boss 1 series.. Come forward approx. 25 years,
I farm on a part time basis...I was in need of a grain truck. I stumbled onto a 1977 White Road Boss 1, single axle tractor which had belonged to Shanahan Express before they went out of business... We stretched the frame, installed a Midwest 14 ft. Grain Dump bed, and finished off the project with a Quinn paint scheme on the truck.. A chrome bumber and new steer tires finished off the project for now. It turned out great. Still looking for one of those plastic dashes...Mines broke. Not too many Road Bosses left on the road... Mine turns heads on the interstate.
