Santa Fe Trail Transportation Company
Based in Wichita, Kansas.
Shaffer Trucking, Inc.
Started in 1937 at Elizabethtown, PA. Shaffer Trucking Inc was purchased by Duane Acklie and family from Lincoln, NE in November of 1974 and is still going strong.
Sharpe Motor Lines
Sharpe was based in NC.
Santa Fe Trail Transportation Co. sent this picture of one of their Internationals to Fred in the mid 60's. This Shaffer Trucking, Inc. 1979 GMC Astro unit pulling a Fruehauf trailer picture was taken in July 1979 by Bill Jensen, location unknown. This Sharpe Motor Lines Mack was pulling into an inspection site at Bath, NY in May, 1978. A few minutes later both tractor and trailer were found to have serious safety defects and the driver was over hours - both driving and on duty time. All three were placed out of service.
Silver Fleet Motor Express
Based in Louisville, KY, they were purchased by Overnite Transportation of Richmond in 1954.
Summit Fast Freight
Summit, based in Akron, was purchased by Lee Way Motor Freight of Oklahoma City in 1960.

Silver Fleet Motor Express sent this picture of one of their Whites to Fred in the mid 50's. This Summit Fast Freight International was parked at a truck stop on U.S. 6 at Edgerton, OH in the fall of 1959.
Smith's Transfer Corp
Smith's, based in Staunton, VA, was purchased by American Freight System of Overland Park, KS, in 1988.

Strickland, based in Dallas,was purchased by Wilson Freight Co. of Cincinnati and Consolidated Freightways in 1978.

Super Service Motor Freight Company
Super Service Motor Freight Co. was based in Nashville and was purchased by T.I.M.E. of Lubbock, TX in 1964.

Service was based in Charleston, WV, and was purchased by McLean Trucking Co. in 1958.

Southern Plaza Express
Southern Plaza, based in Dallas, was partially purchased by Ryder Truck Lines of Jacksonville, FL in 1961, and the rest of the operating authority by Consolidated Freightways in 1965.
Steffke Freight Company
Steffke, based in Wausau, WI, was purchased by Spector Freight System in 1964.
This Southern Plaza Express International was parked at roadside somewhere between Columbia and St. Louis, MO in late 1959. This Southern Plaza Express Kenworth half-cab pulling an Indianapolis-Kansas City Motor Express (IKC) trailer was parked at a diner in Columbia, MO in 1959. Steffke Freight Co. sent this picture of their line up of Reos to me in the mid 50's.

Southern Plaza Express International sleeper. This picture has to have been winter of 58/59, St. Louis Terminal. I almost got on this sleeper run, but not enough seniority. I lived Springfield, MO and worked out of St. Louis until lay off from Ryder buying into Southern.

Southern Plaza was made up of two companies. Southern and Reliable. That is the reason it was called Southern Plaza, the Reliable line. From the drivers I knew that worked for Reliable, they were from Springfield, MO. Fred Veregge Collection.

Shirks, based in Lancaster, PA, was purchased by Norwalk Truck Lines of Norwalk, OH in 1957.
