On May 28, 2009 you may have noticed that the Forum was in maintenance mode for quite a while. Well it is a long story. But I won't bore you with all the details. The short of it is that I needed to apply an upgrade to the Forum software and there was a bug in the process. After trying many different methods to get it to work, I gave up and put the Forum back online.

Then today (May 29, 2009), I did some more research and found a workaround for the "bug". Now the Forum if properly upgraded and things appear to be okay again.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello Fisherman,

FIRST OF ALL, MANY THANKS FOR ALL THOSE FANTASTIC PICTURES AND WONDERFULL STORY!!!!!
I would "LOVE" to see much more of those "pictured trips", specialy from our "US/Canadian" friends"!!!!!

You know I visit Jan in September and seeing those Norwegian pictures did make me feel "real good" and brings back good memories on that fantastic time at Jan's place and by his friends!!!!!

GrantNZ, also we "Dutch" wave and/or flash to "personal friends or colleges", or the same like "Fisherman" only on real "far" trips in other parts of Europe!!!!!
In the "East-block" time, only NOT on the "Berlin Transit Highway", we waved and flashed to every "Western country truck" or even cars!!!!!
On the "Berlin Transit Road" to "Western-Berlin" you could only "wave"!!!!! "Flashing", even by "overtaking" was absolutly FORBIDDEN and that road was very heavently "controlled" by the "East-German" Police and if you were "catched", you could get very high "penalty's" or even more!!!!!
A Dutch driver (an old college of me, that NEVER was in the "East-block" before) was even "arrested" for "spionage" after he "flashed on" a Police-car parked in the dark on the hard-shoulder!!!!!
The "DUTCH Government" did "NEED" a week to get that poor man back to Holland!!!!! Also my "boss" NEED a week to get his truck back and only after all the "extra lights" were build off and some very high "penalty's" for "technical FAILURES"!!!!!

Also like Fisherman told, also on "truckstops" you won't "meet" hardly any "landsman" anymore, no "time", no "interest" or nowadays to many "foreign" drivers!!!!!
The time of the "trucker-romantic" is in "Western-Europe" already long gone and "forgotten"!!!!!

Fisherman, looking forward to more of your "foto-story's" and I would certainly love to meet you "personally"!!!!!
Greetings from Emmerich am Rhein, Germany,

The DAFman, Leo

Great series. I hope you will do more. As well as you other guys from "ver there." It's neat to see how its done elsewhere and also to see what other countries look like. Must be kind of a pain to drive on some of those very narrow roads. I noted the "turn-outs" to let down hill traffic get by on what looked like one lane roads.  Anyway, fascinating.

Would you guys prefer to see pics from an interesting trip (my opinion) or just a typical week? An interesting week may actually give you a skewed idea of life behind the wheel over here (and I guess my job is often is a little out-of-the-ordinary anyway... I'm hauling a new Dressta bulldozer from Carlisle, PA to Calgary, AB - about 2300 miles - 11'10" wide and 14'2" high... not a run-of-the-mill 500 miles dry box run). Also, where should I post it? If I put it in Action Photos can I put a link to it here? Yep, I can do that.

Just got done for the week. I'm loading a partial load (20') on Monday for Nashville, TN and then spending the couple of days trying to fill out the rest of the trailer. I'll keep track of expenses and sent you a pm with the totals if you like (I'm still "old school" about posting that stuff in public but I see no harm in showing a fellow on the other side of the world). This load should be more enlightening about the LTL side of what I do. Hopefully I'll get something wide on there too. This isn't a great example of trucking over here though you understand, it's more like a niche of the business that do. LTL on a flatbed often mixed with oversized freight is fairly rare over here but we've made it work for us and have been throwing in the multi-axle and double drop extendable for the past few years as well. It's almost half our business these days. Our 16 wheel, 2 axle jeep is ready and our 70 ton, 10' wide lowboy is in the painting stage.
