The web site was back up last night and Google didn't report any attacks. So we are safe again.

I have been working with my support people to prevent this from happening again. Thank you for all your patience while this was getting resolved.

I put the question to my computer technician as to whether I should worry about the Microsoft/Foxfire warning.

His answer was;

"nope, most of these warnings do not mean everyone is at risk"

Of course, I'm left with who is at risk and who isn't?

Not much consolation!

Mr. 'L'

If you've visited MS and patched your computer since Dec 2008, you may be at risk according to the article.
There's a link on the page that tells you how to remove the add on, if you don't mind messing with the registry. huh tongue

Hey, Hank.
Have you gone through the browser preferences/settings/tools to see if your security settings have gone to default after the upgrade?

Maybe have a look here.

I assume you've resolved the problem.......had no problem logging in
Using Microsoft 7 Ultimate Edition 64 bit (nice to see that garbage OS VISTA finally gone, not a cheer leader for Microsoft and was going to switch to MAC BUT, their new Microsoft 7 actually works well....for once) logged in with Explorer 8....didn't get any "security warnings' and I'm using AVG Internet Security 8.5, which is updated daily.

Well I just downloaded IE version 8 and still doesn't work.   Like I said all forums, emails, and other sites requiring passwords work, except Hanks.  huh

The currant way of signing in as I mentioned above work and slightly annoying....  Just curious thats all.

When you do a clean install of windows everything reverts back to default settings.

I have two towers--one about 5 years old that is on XP and the only upgrade was to 2 gb--the other is a year old and came with Vista 64 bit which I changed to WIN 7 64 bit when it came out last fall. I use Norton 360 in both and have never had any security problems and they update automatically. As to whether WIN 7 is any improvement over Vista that is a judgment call. One of the PC magazines said it would load faster but I don't see any difference and my XP machine loads much faster.  I have a wide screen monitor between both of the towers and a KVM switch that lets me use the same monitor and cursor for either one. I don't get the security warning on WIN 7 with  either Firefox or E8 but it does come up if I display Firefox on the XP machine. Where there might be a security issue in what I am doing I use the WIN 7 machine. Each machine has an external disk drive for backup. On Hanks I stay logged in(forever). No problem with the updated forum.

wbache -

Bought a new laptop within past few months. Low end priced ACER, on the cheap from Best Buy. Solid machine. Might benefit from an added 1 GB memory board so
as to get it to 4 GB, but I'm not losing sleep over it...

Came with W-7 installed. I routinely now use Firefox in lieu IE-8. In any case, funny thing about W-7. I notice I can just put the machine to "Hibernate" at end of day.
I can run for days and days without crashes, blue screens, and numerous files of clutter that didn't close politely...

As to merits of W-7, compared with Vista, XP, et. al. As I quipped to a computer tech: "I'll be happy if it runs as well as DOS-5!" (Never as slick as DR-DOS 6, but that's
another lost battle!)...

to Vern

When I read this I wondered if I was missing something. "hibernate" is part of the shutdown format on my XP machine which I activate by holding down  the shift key which changes the stand by icon to "hibernate'. When the machine is turned back on about all that is necesary is to enter your pass word(if you use one) and everything comes alive rather quickly.  I have not been able to replicate this with my WIN7 machine.

Oh, yes, you can! (Hate to use the now politically charged expression!)

Lower left. Click the lower bar, MS -W icon. On bottom right of the Menu, see "Shut Down". Click the small, right side icon. "Hibernate" appears as an option.

It works for me. The reason I am more reliant on it? W-7 is apparently better on continuing "housekeeping", and closing files after use. That is, should one
monitor in Task Manager: As the day goes on, the "base load" does not keep creeping ever higher. To promote even more "Happy Housekeeping" here,
I do try to run Disk Cleanup daily...

Hi everyone:

I have a 1 year old Dell, with Vista, using Firefox.

When I go to log in, I type my name and password, hit enter and then the page goes totally white. I then have to page back, retype my password (password space is now again blank), and hit enter again, then I am in.

Same when logging out, have to page back and try a 2nd time to log out.

Double clutching a computer, now there's a new one!

Thanks,

Dave

to Vern
no I can't
When I click the little arrow next to shut down I get these options -Switch user-Log off-lock-restart-sleep--I do the disikclean program almost every day the the Norton 360 program has a selection to do a registry check=Defraging is automatic on  the WIN7 machine but I have to select it manually on the XPmachine--Are we having fun yet  huh

To Dave-Do your have this problem if you use explorer 8 instead of Firefox. --In any event if you have a one year old Dell(as I do ) you should have gotten a restoration disk with it so you can reload Vista into your computer.  You might also try the system restore program. the only problem is you will possibly have to reload your periferals such as a printer and other software that you may have installed. My 5 year old Dell that has WINXP has a built in restoration program and I ran it about 6  months ago for the first time and with an upgrade from 540mgb  to 2000mgb it runs like a new machine.

Have you a hourglass on your white page? If so, the browser / server lag. Otherwise, have you tried to clean your cache memory/cookies?

In Windows 7? Yes, I see the sequence of choices in "Shut Down" sub menu, too. On mine, there is hibernate at the bottom of the list, just below sleep...

In its "Disk Cleanup"? Just so we are on the same page here. The option simply removes temporary (and, at specific user selection, other) files. It runs off in a minute or two.
Compare, noted that W-7 defaults to its own scheduled and regular "Defrag" routines.

Overall, W-7 is somewhat deceptive, in it appears to boot up so quickly. So, keeping an eye for the working "hourglass" symbol helps, to guide user to not outrace the pace of its work...

Hi:

Thanks for the help, but no hourglass and cache memory/cookies are always cleaned out. AFTER I log out I get these messages. "An error has occurred" "Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again. At least I can get in and out.
