Preston Trucking GMC 2451. Nicknamed "The Batmobile." This truck was Preston's early attempt at a (then) radically aerodynamic truck. It began life as a 1980 GMC Brigadier (J9CO64). The modifications were made at the company shop in Preston, MD. The truck was said to turn about 7.5 MPG, phenominal for its day, considering that it had a mechanically governed big-block engine (Cat 3406) and pulled mostly rib-sided trailers. The super single rear tire with shaved tread and rear hub caps also helped, no doubt. Gary A. Smith Collection.

Our family business (Gadow's Body Shop, Preston,MD), did a good volume of work for Preston through the years. The first 2 shots are of a Ford Aeromax, one of many we painted in the later years. The peak was 1997 when we did 72 all-overs for Preston. Many were exactly like this one. They were former Baxter trucks if I remember right. The second set of pics shows a typical rear panel repair on a Ford. We did plenty of these.
