It is with great regret in hearing the news about Consolidated Freightways declaring bankruptcy.

	Here is a picture of a Consolidated Freightways Freightliner taken in 1975 in Pennsylvania. The hookup is interesting as it is a long wheel based tractor with the fifth wheel being slid right up to the cab. At the time this was the way that CF could run doubles in the state of Pennsylvania. In this way the truck would run as a straight truck pulling a pup trailer. This photo is from Robert Archer.

Dave shot these in 1983 and they show both sides of a then new batch of tag axle tandem tractors. Note that the drivers side had a much more elaborate entry system over the passenger side. This bobtail tractor was shot in Chicopee, MA.	This CF Freightliner tag-axle tandem was taken in 1983 on the NY Thruway. These tandem tractors were more popular in the East. CF trucks are icons on the American highway whether they are triples in Nevada or a set of doubles on the NY Thruway.

In 1984 CF stared purchasing COEs with the larger Airshield brand fairing on the top of the cab. Also in 1984 Freightliner redesigned the COEs styling. These photos show a rare and small batch of COE's CF had with the new fairing and the old style grille.		Here is a shot while passing a CF unit was near Flagstaff, AZ in June 1984.
This photo shows a set of triples where the middle box is the older 96" wide and the front and rear trailers are 102" wide. This caused many a headache for drivers of all fleets as the tracking would differ between the narrow and wide trailers. This photo was taken in Nevada in 1983. This is unit 10-2176 at Hermiston, OR. I believe this tractor came out of Spokane to pick up a trailer dropped in Hermiston. Hermiston is a drop yard for triples so that they can continue on with doubles to Seattle. Photo shot on August 4, 2002.

This pair of photos is of a then new 10-series tractor hooked to triples. I hooked this in the CF Wallingford, CT terminal in the summer of 1988. This isn't a triples tractor and had the usual Caterpillar 3406 rated at 285HP. Triples weren't ever legal in Connecticut and I posed this for the photo.		Here is a higher numbered 10-series FLC. This FLC is actually numbered higher than some FLD models they were testing in 1988. This photo was taken at Wallingford, CT.
This is a triples tractor when brand new in 1987 at Salt Lake City. Note the "white tips" on the bumper that is the CF designation for triples power at that time.		CF International 9670. They had about 150 of the Internationals as a test. Photo was taken at at Wallingford, CT.
16-2023 was a city unit transfered from line. The extra "1" on the prefix is the city designation just like Canadian Freightways. Intersting also is that 116-2023 was also at one time a tandem axle tag tractor and had the rear axle removed. It started it's career at CF as 24-2023. The other tractor in the photos is an average FLC #10-408. Both at Wallingfrod, CT in summer of 1988.		Here is that same 116-2023 with doubles.
Here is CF 10-469 which Dave used for a city run one day in 1988.	Here is 16-6931 with a rare FRP trailer CF bought used as I used it for a volume city pickup in 1988. The photo was taken in Wallingford, CT.	.This CF 16-7074 was shot at Bobbers Truck Stop in Effingham, IL in 1987.
This is the first CF unit Dave drove and it was in May 1988. He used it on a short peddle run to Meriden, CT from CF's Wallingford, CT terminal.		A set of doubles getting on I-70 westbound in Effingham, IL in 1986.

Here is a CF test unit and one of the first FLDs of the line for Freightliner. CF tested 30 of these in 1988 and then adopted the FLD as it's linehaul unit for several years to come. This was also the first set of doubles that Dave Faust drove in the state of Connecticut as they had a seperate license requirement for doubles which turned into the CDL in later years. This is 10-976. Also from the group of 30 test units of FLDs. The 30 came split between half with fuel tank skirts and half without. CF had never used skirting before and we all figured the next order would come through like these. Instead these became the oddballs and they were eventually assigned to triples work on the Ohio Turnpike. These tractors also had 100 gallon fuel tanks instead of the usual CF spec 130 gallon tanks. This is a standard FLD from the next order. Note the lack of aluminum trim on the black plastic bumper and also the tractor number in white numbers on the bumper. Wallingford, CF in 1989.
	Here is a shot that Dave Faust got from another collector and the photographer is unknown. It is a CF test unit KW COE after it had been downgraded to a city unit. Dave remembers seeing 16-2 and it was an International 9670. They tested a single unit from KW, IH and Ford and picked IH to go against Freightliner as a long term camparison. David Faust Collection.

Dave shot this in 1978 along I-70 in Ohio and I remember seeing a few of these 45' trailers for CF with the flag logo on the door for the US Bicentennial.	This was shot in March 1980 in Tonowanda, NY at CF's Buffalo Consolidation Center.	Ready line in Buffalo also in March 1980
This photo was shot at the Howard Johnsons rest area on the Mass Pike at Stockbridge. These CF drivers stopped for lunch on their run from Buffalo to Chicopee, MA.
Here is a dard green and yellow Freightliner in the background where Joe learned how to work on trucks. This was a truck donated to the school by Consolidated Freightways; it is from the 60's, a White Freightliner. ROC (Regional Occupation Center) in Hayward, CA. Taken in 1979. Joe Hyberg Collection. 	A brand new CF tandem in 1980 and this series of tractor would eventually have the tag axle cut off to become a single axle city unit. Note the trailer which once had the newer CF logo and was stripped to have the older style Canadian Freightways logo added as well as the "2" on the trailer number prefix to designate the eastern area of Canadian Freightways. Well I hated to do it, but I drove by what was the Bridgeview (Chicago)IL. CF terminal.This is all thats left of what was the big breakbulk terminal of Chicago. Very sad and deserted except for those couple of pieces of equipment and a sign hanging that says for the drivers to drive safe because their families need them!! - 12/30/03. Check out the classic CF tractor (the second FLC they bought after the initial testing of three models) I found today in Seattle less than a block from the old CF terminal which has been leveled into a trailer storage lot. Here is a former CF unit at the local Spanaway, WA junkyard. This one was a tag axle tandem and was numbered: 24-1273. This is about a 1978 unit and one of the first Freightliners (after the White Freightliner name change).
I found this old CF equipment in Tuscumbia,Al just setting in a field. They appear to be un altered from the auction.
