Two Old Truckers

Two old truckers...
Who's paths crossed many years ago,
Who over the years became the best of friends,
Who ran team together for eleven and a half years,
Who have been to every corner of the United States together.

Two old truckers...
With a combined experience of nearly seventy years,
They have earned the status of veterans,
They have earned the right to say, "It's been a long hard ride,"
Aching backs, high blood pressure, and arthritis is all they have to show for it.

In the early years of their careers...
One hauled swinging meat as an owner-operator,
One hauled boxed meat in a Monfort "Circus Wagon"

In their early years as a team...
They could destroy a Friday night seafood buffet at Boomtown,
Now they're both on strict diets just to survive.

As a team...
They've hauled potatoes out of northern Maine,
They've hauled fresh sweet corn out of the Florida Everglades,
They've hauled tomatoes off the Mexican border,
They've hauled Coors beer to northwest Washington,
And they've hauled just about everything else everywhere in between.

As a team...
They've hung all the iron they had to get over Wolf Creek Pass,
They've seriously smoked their brakes in Turkey Creek Canyon,
They've crawled up Spotted Wolf Alignment at 12 mph,
And they have taken 105,000 lbs. worth of triples down Cabbage Hill at 40!

Two old truckers...
They've run team in a B-cab Kenworth,
They've run union sleeper in a cabover Freightliner,
They've criss-crossed the United States more times than either can remember,
They have hugged each other as brothers,
They have swore at each other as enemies,
But the bloodlines of friendship run deep.

Two old truckers...
Who pursued separate paths of their careers and dreams four years ago.
Who's paths briefly crossed recently on I-70 in Indiana.
They're both tired and their bodies just about worn out,
But they still keep on truckin',

Two old truckers...
