We traveled from Gunnison, CO along US-50 as far as Montrose, CO

From Montrose, CO we traveled south on US-550 as far as Durango, CO
This Kenworth T-800 was really relying on his Jake Brake as he was coming down the steep hair-pin turns.
I'll remember these pictures for a long time. We were on a pass that was 11,613 ft up and I didn't realize how hard it would be to breathe while at that elevation. So I walked down the hill to take these pictures, not realizing how hard it was going to be to get back to our vehicle. I really didn't think I would make it back to the truck. It was that hard. It took me at least 15 minutes to get my breath back again.
When you look at the full size images, you can see the tanker truck at the bottom just before it go to the switch-back turn at the bottom of the hill.
We stopped in at Silverton, CO to take some pictures of the narrow guage train that was sitting in the siding.
Lots of spectacular scenery along the way. I just had to include it on this page.
We had seen this same truck just days before at the ATHS truck show at Colorado Springs. Now we see it in the mountains on US-550.

From Durango, CO we traveled west on US-160 to as far as Cortez, CO
I shot this picture from a rest area just east of Cortez, CO.
We would be up on those mountains the following day.
