Bill was a Hendrickson employee for about 40 years and he was kind enough to share his collection of pictures.
This giant yellow monster has had publicity over the years. The photos were taken in December of 1970 or 1971 on the property of Page and Page in Summit, Illinois near a rail siding were the unit would later be loaded for delivery to Alaska.
The beloved Hendrickson high mount COE Engineering test truck and trailer. This is really an IHC Emeryville cab. The photo was taken on Hendrickson property in Lyons, Illinois probably on June 1, 1972 also. This was an Cummins underpowered beast with a FE970 front axle (no power steering) and a Fuller 10 speed trans. Going up any kind of a grade with a full load meant shifting down to sixth gear.
The Ford W Series and Hendrickson H model class 8 tractors were two units owned and operated by Hendrickson for inter plant private hauling of Hendrickson product between Lyons, Illinois and Kendallville and Butler, Indiana. Both had 8V-71 Detroits and ran daily between the two plants. They were a pleasure to drive. The photos were taken on Hendrickson property in Lyons, Illinois on June 1, 1972.
