Toronto International Airport circa 1980

Trucks are the final link with airfreight like all other intermodal moves. The following are some of the trucks that served Toronto International Airtport (now Pearson International). Most of these carriers are "Fallen Flags."

The forklift operator at one of the OFF AIRPORT cargo warehouses was having a bad day in the spring of 1978. The red straight truck at the shipping door was operated by Westwood Air Freight who delivered air cargo shipments around Metro Toronto.
Air Cargo Building "D", one of 5 sufferance warehouse buildings where air freight was held for Customs clearance. 81000 CANADA Ltd. ran a road feeder service between the two airports in Montreal and Toronto International Airport. These two Macks were available for rent by Golden Truck Rental which was a division of Aldridge Cargo Services. Aldridge held the rights to deliver to the Oakville, Ontario area from Toronto International Airport. Mack had an assembly plant there. The Ford tractor trailer unit was owned by Tugham Express. Tugham had rights to go between Guelph, Cambridge and Kitchener and Toronto International Airport. Dominion Consolidated had authority as TRUCK AIR LTD. to deliver to any point in Ontario from Toronto International Airport.

Current Air Freight Carriers
TRO-AIR was the airfreight division of Trojan Freight Lines, the full load diviision of TNT Overland. Trojan started hauling airfreight to New York City from Toronto for PAN AM WORLD AIRWAYS about 1980. created Tro-Air expanded the scope to include Chicago and other airlines as customers.Tro-Air is a ROADFAST company today. The picture was taken in December 2000. This Freightliner is leased to EGL Eagle Global Logistics. The "YYZ" on the trailer number indicates it is Toronto based. This Volvo is from Atlantis Transportation, a large airfreight hauler based at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
Here is a Volvo daycab from Airoute Groupe. They have offices in Montreal, Toronto and New Jersey. Here is a city unit from FedEx Express Tughan Express equipment in October 2004. They have been in business for over a quarter century.

ATLANTIS TRANSPORTATION is a large air freight hauler based near Pearson International Airport in Mississauga. It was started in Oshawa ON the early 1970's to run rush parts loads for General Motors. It aquired Charterways Transportation who hauled air cargo between Toronto and Montreal. It expanded operations to haul to New York, Detroit and Chicago. Atlantis pioneered the use of special trailers with roller beds embedded in the floor to facilitate the quick loading of the "igloo" containers used by the airlines to load cargo on the planes.

Powered by a Penske Freightliner tractor this AirTime Express unit is headed to a midwest USA airport. November 2016 This International straight truck runs for the CEVA Logistics air freight division.
YYZ is for a Toronto based truck. - June 2016
DHL is an Air Carrier. They sold their domestic operations to Transforce, which renamed it Loomis, to concentrate on their international operations. This Peterbilt straight truck is used to deliver these shipments in Southern Ontario.
